Alanis now "Canadian-American"

Quote:
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ottawa-native Alanis Morissette is now an American citizen.

The singer was among some 4,500 people who took the citizenship oath during a ceremony last week at the Los Angeles Convention Center. But Morissette isn't turning her back on Canada — she's maintaining dual citizenship.

That's cool, but we're NOT taking Celine Dion. Hear that, Canada? No way, no how, non, non, non!

i wonder, are imported celebrities worse than migrant workers when it comes to taking American jobs?

Don't the Bladwin's have some organization about that?

I could be wrong, but you don't automatically become a citizen when you marry someone. You have to go through the same procedures as non-married immigrants.

Trust me on this one! You do NOT automatically become a citizen. I got INS receipts, stress, grey hair and Mr. 1228s ongoing immigration paperwork to prove it...and we have been married a little over 3 years. And he is not even applying for citizenship...just resident alien status

That's what I get for marrying a friggin' Canadian!

I thought her fiance was Canadian too.

But I agree with my girl KR...y'all can have Celine! Mr. 1228 doesn't even want to admit that they are from the same province (Quebec)

You're right. My cousin married a Mexican girl (illegal immigrant) and she still ahd to go through regular citizenship procedures.

Ryan Renyolds is from my neck of the woods. He is related to my cousins, but isn't on my side of the family. On a side note Ryan Gosling is also Canadian.

Nope. My aunt married an Australian and neither did he become an American nor did she become an Australian. Marrying someone simply makes the process easier (spouse is your sponsor in most cases), however in my aunt's case it was easier for them to both emigrate to Canada than either live in the US or Australia.

Didn't Jim Carrey become a Canadian-American couple of months ago too?

No. She'll have to apply just like everyone else. And I thought Ryan Reynolds was Canadian.

Yep...we're everywhere!

Which is why I never understood why Arnold was so concerned with Hollywood north. Either way Canadians are getting the job since half of Hollywood is filled with Canadians already
