Is frat life good for a Man of God?
Is frat life good for Man of God?
I am about 1-2 months away from pledging Grad chapter.
I have been around good brothers and bad. But you don't know the organization fully until you are in.
With all due respect I'd like to here from some saved Christians or ministers.
Do you think that some of the activities that go on and that I will be undoubtedly asked to do, compromise my stand for God
I have heard some Brothers say "no no problem".....and others say "yeah youre gonna have a hard time"
Secondly how do you handle such situations.
I expect a couple of different replies. I'm sure one of them will be"this is not a question to be asked in this forum".
But I'd just like to hear from Brother and Sisters all over the country.

I'll take the bait. First off, no I'm not a minster but I do see myself as a Christian. However, I have a cousin who is a minister and he is a very proud and active member of Omega Psi Phi. Having said that, you can be in a frat/sor and be a man/woman of God. All the D9 organizations were founded on principles that are based on the teachings of Christ. By that I mean our Servitude and Stewardship. Also, I would wager that in each of our rituals and oaths, there's some referrence to God.
Now, where you're probably wondering is, the social side of our organizations. Like any facet of the secular society we live in there might be things that as Christians we might not partake in, but I would look at the organization as whole. What Kappa Alpha Psi does in giving back to the community and our mentorship through our Guide Right programs, is priceless. That is of God. No you don't have to go to Kappa Luau, no you don't have to go to freak fest. There are Bro/Sis in every organization who attend meetings and are on the frontline in our service efforts but are devout Christians. Also at the grad level there are nice social evens like Balls and other social events that benefit some type of philanthropy. Having said all this, you can. I know of others who have denounced their membership over your same concerns. I would argue why did they join in the first place. You could take the kane twirling, the shimmy, and the strolling away and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. would still stand as a symbol of Achievement, Brotherhood and Service. Don't forget that PHI NU PI. I had so many preconceived notions about fraternity life, but it's until I became a member that I realized that the stepping and stuff like that were not as important as the Good we do as Kappa men for the world. I hope I've helped a little. But ultimately only God can give u true direction. Good luck in journey, no matter where it leads.

That was a great reply. So you see it as Christians view society and events therein as a whole...you can be in the frat but not of everything that goes on in the frat?
How will you be viewed if you decline offers which are against your belief system, less than a real brother?

A real brother will respect your beliefs and values. We are looking for leaders not followers.

Kudos to You Good Brother,
I wanted to respond to the "candidate's" note even though I saw it very late, but after seeing your note, I really could not added anything more. Great Job PHI!
