Running for Office
I am running for student body President of my university because that is where the Lord has led me. I have come up with ideas on how to make the campus a better place for students. What I am requesting are more ideas or suggestions on how to deal with retention, creating more unity, and bringing the University and community together. Your ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I suggest that you make contact with all the Registered Student Organizations (go to their meetings) that are majorly of minority population. Let them know your platform is and use them to help you make the campus more unified. Also let them know that you are a resource for them as students and as organizations.
Also, contact the administration (if you are black, especially the black faculty, staff and administration) and let them tell you what they want to see on the campus and what they think would make it a better university.
Thats all for now but I'll get back to you...let me know what you think of the suggestions that I have given you so far.

I love hearing testimonies about where the Lord leads us. I'm going through a spirit led situation and I will love to share my testimony with all of your real soon.
Since God led you in that direction, you will do fine. I remember being the campaign manager for my best friend in 1992 who ran and won the presidency for SGA. Another tip is to "work" those dormitories big time!!
Form a retention organization through recruitment and work strongly with Alumni on the efforts.
Be blessed ! When are the elections?

So, you feel like things are not coming together?? Why??
Use this instinctual feeling to re-asses what avenues you are taking to make sure that you WIN. Use every resource you have and don't have...make some new resouces/contacts!!
And I strongly agree with DirectorDST, WORK those RESIDENCE HALLS and hit up those DINING CENTERS, sit and talk to people (briefly) while they eat.
Make sure you do what you have to do what you have to do to get 100% of the Black vote if you go to a predominately White university.
Get your name out!!!
How big is your school? Is it a predominately White school? Do you run with a party and if so where does your party get its funding?

Thanks again for the advice and comments regarding the elections. Well although I did not win the elections God had another position prepared for me. Instead of being President of the Associate Student Body, I will be the President of the first NAACP chapter on campus. Thanks you Jesus!!!

Congratulations!
We have a little something in common Q-ball. I am the new Vice President of my schools NAACP. Let's make a difference girl! Hopefully you'll keep me up to date on your schools chapter, maybe I can get some ideas for mine since we are new.

Sweetest Diva,
I tried to email you but it wouldn't work. Sorry it took so long for me to reply. I just finished finals last week and have been extremely busy. Your question was: How do you go about chartering an NAACP chapter on campus? A friend of mine met the NAACP regional director at an awards ceremony and they discussed getting a chapter estblished on campus. So the first step would be to contact the regional director in your area. The regional director will them be able to walk you through all the steps of getting established. I will be meeting with my regional director sometime this week. If you don't know who the regional director is in your area, email your school name, state, and city and I'll ask her to find out who you would need to contact. If you have any questions don't hesitate to email me back. Thanks!
Also, Nubian I sent you an email congratulating you on your new position. Write back some time!
