Chairs

What are some of the chairs that you have in your chapter? What are their responsibilities?

I'm fundraising chair for the rest of the semester. Currently, I'm in charge of raising funds to start construction on our new house.

RPM chair- In charge of RPM planning.

Ritual- obviously performs duties related to this.

Sisterhood- plans fun things for us to do as a chapter to bond.

Spotlight-in charge of giving the "spotlight" bear to a new sister every week who did something above and beyond to help the chapter.

Webmaster

T-shirts

House Manager- Usually an older member who is currently living there. Makes sure the girls living there know all the rules and policies.

Song chair

Parliamentarian- conducts democratic and parliamentary proceedings.

We have the usual:

Social: in charge of mixers, date parties, and exchanges and coming up with new ideas for them.

T-Shirt: in charge of creating the t-shirts for the events in the correct sizes and getting them distributed to the sisters and their dates accordingly.

Sisterhood: in charge of putting together kick a** sisterhood events

Ship Wrecked: this is our BIG event in the fall semester and this chair is in charge of putting it together well!

Formal: Formal is the BIG event in the Spring and this chair is in charge of making sure it goes well!

Website: in charge of doing the site or getting someone to do it. As well as keeping it updated.

Homecoming: in charge of putting events together for Homecoming week and making sure we get to them in our spirit shirts or whatever we need to be wearing!

Spirit: in charge of getting our letters (the big wood ones) to intramural sports, football games, and in the square when they need to be. Also gets tickets for all the sports games for the sisters to sit together. She makes sure we know about all of the activities going on on campus and gets us to them.

Greek Week: in charge of finding out what we are supposed to be doing and when.

Fundraising: does RPM and anything else she thinks she can accomplish. A few things we did were toys-for-tots w/ TKE and Police vs. Greek to benefit families of officers killed in the line of duty.

Efficiency: adds up the points for girls etc...I'm sure we all know.

Ritual: makes sure we are doing all of our Ritual correctly.

I'm sure we had more but I just can't thin of them now. I have been out of the loop for almost 2 semesters now. If you have any questions PM me.

What is this..? Sounds interesting and such a cute name!

Also you talked about Big Wooden Letters? What are those for..besides the obvious of course? I mean when do you use them? How big are they...? That would be cool for bid day or a yearbook picture!

Our chapter has pretty much your basic chairs:

RPM

Social - plans parties and get togethers

Campus/Greek Activities: Helps plan Greek Week with the other Greek Presidents; gets chapter involved with campus wide events AND does banners for homecoming and things (we can win money for those!)

Parlamentarian

Webmistress check out our site http://webpages.ursinus.edu/sss/

Formal: We just have the one in the Spring..and we like to do-it-up

Community Service: Gets us involved not only our own comm service but in the campus and other orgs as well which is cool

Sisterhood: plans cool events and makes everyone feel special

Alumni Relations : Last year we made our first newsletter!

If homecoming was more of a big deal it would be cool to have a chair for that.

We have a bunch of others..I can't seem to think though!

As an undergrad I was treasurer, efficiency, campus/greek activities, community service, social, and alumni relations...It's not that much, we have a good amount of girls..I just seemed to have endless Sigma spirit!

Shipwrecked is our HUGE annual Crush Party. We have invitations handed out by the social chair and announce our 'crushes' in the newspaper and invite them to meet at our house at a certain time. Everyone dresses to theme. Some girls come as pirates or with ripped cloths. The guys REALLY get into it!! It is so hillarious to see their costumes! All teh girls decorate a bucket for their date. These are like big metal pales that you can get at Michaels or some other decorative store. You paint it and fill it full of goodies that are also them related (i.e ife savers, corona, captain morgan, sailor hats with your dates name). the guys usualy collect these buckets from all the crushes they attend because it shows that they get the "hotties" or whatever. Its a macho thing. Anyway...Then we have a limo chaufer (?) us to where the event is held. You can invite as many crushes as you want! At our school every sorority has an annual crush.
ADPi - Lion Hunt
AXO - Barndance
Zeta - Crown Your Crush
Sigma - Shipwrecked!

Our letters are used for Bid Day mostly and promoting us at our University events. They are about 6 or 7 feet tall and we usually stand in front of them for pictures and things like that. They are painted purple and white, but for Bid Day we usually Dress them up and decorate according to our theme! They are VERY useful. Here is a link to the what the Letters look like http://www.shsu.edu/~org_zta/bidday.html these are the zeta letters because I couldnt find a picture of ours. But they are the same as ours only their letters and colors. you get what I am saying

I think that is about it. If you have any more questions let me know.

Thanks Brenda! Those letters are HUGE! I have no idea where we could keep those since we don't have a house But its an idea and maybe I can adapt them to work with my chapters situation...they do look really cute..and geez, what better way to show Sigma love than 7 foot tall letters!!

The shipwrecked "crush" party sounds absolutely fabulous! I want to be invited to one! haha. It would be neat to have something like that on our campus. The one group has a "trust your sister dated" where a sister picks a guy for you (either good or bad). What are the logistics for planing something like that, meaning costs etc? I mean it would seem like it would cost as much as a formal almost. Thanks for the link to the site...we actually were just at the Sigma SHSU site...we loved the shirts that said "Tri Sigma and SHSU..the 2 best choices I ever made"..in fact a bunch of us made them for our school..and let me tell you the jealousy was through the roof homeocming weekend! So mad props to your tshirt chair!!

Thank you all so much for responding. Our chapter just keeps getting larger so we are trying to add more chairs. Plus it's cool to see what kind of chairs other chapters have.

Since you aren't housed I would suggest renting some kind of storage space so that you can possibly have a fraternity make your letters (TKE made ours) and store them. You could also use it to store decorations for Recruitment and any other annual events you hold. Saving stuff saves you $$$. For Recruitment we had these HUGE slate type things built that were like feux (sp?)walls that we put up tp change our room every night. They are very cool and come in very handy! This would be something you could store and re-use. For Shipwrecked we also have a HUGE life saver that we use to take pictures in front of and we re-use it; another example of when storage comes in handy. This could come in as a once a semester fee. We have a once a semester fee for housing so that our housing core can buy is new furniture or redecorate our house when we need it and so on. Since you don't have a house it could be a storage fee. Anywa...just a thought!
