Just a quick question...?
Hi, I know that this question probably belongs in the rush section but when I looked it didn't seem as if people check it very often so I decided to post it here.
Well anyways, Im a Sigma Nu and I was just elected into the position of our Rush Chair, and was just wondering what kind of computer programs some other greeks have used to create fliers, posters, t-shirts etc etc. Im what you would call computer illiterate so I have no idea, if anyone has any feedback that would be great. Thanks!

Your national office can help you with computer programs. The best advice I can offer you is that the rush chairman shouldn't concern himself with fliers, t-shirts and posters. Leave that to others you appoint and oversee. No one is going to join Sigma Nu because of a poster or a t-shirt. New pledges will join because you have personally inspired and motivated the Sigma Nu Brothers to go out, find the best guys and rush them one-on-one, man-to-man.
We put out the slickest, most elaborate rush brochure in the country and have produced it since 1971, yet no one has ever come through the door waving a copy of that magazine and demanding to be pledged.
There's no computer program clever enough to rush for you.

FireHouse is True on.
While it seems the best to Promote Your Fraternity, it is best to promote your Brothers first.
Every Greek Organization that has been around for a long time can be promotable, but each Chapter is different campus to campus.
Most new students may know of SN, LXA, KS, BTPi, SAE, ETC, but when they come to School, it is the individual Memebers who are important.

Co-sign. Leave flyers, posters, and t-shirts to your PR chair or committee.

So, what kind of program would the people you appoint use? We're a local, so we don't have a national headquarters...

I'd go with Micorsoft Publisher if you have it. It has a lot of options so you could probably play around with it and find something that would work well.

If you are from a chapter where your PR person doesn't do squat other than make copies and put them in pretty piles for sisters to pick up, like ours did, I would suggest Publisher also. It is user friendly and will give you enough to make a few posters or personal invites, whatever you may need. Now, if you can get that PR person do it for you, I'd go that route, but if not, play around w/publisher and see if it would work for you. (It's part of the Office package)

Let's not leave him hanging here, guys!!
SigNu,
I'm not a fraternity brother, so I can't tell you exactly what you job is as Recruitment Chair. I personally think that while you shouldn't be doing all the PR yourself, you should be doing a little project management and making sure that someone is doing it. Especially if you and your brothers have come up with a slogan/campaign theme/etc. You want you and your PR committee (who's making the ads) to be on the same page. That being said, I think MS Publisher would be a good place to start...I'm not a Publisher expert, but it seems easy to use and gives you more options than Microsoft Word does. And since it's in the same family (MS Office) I'm sure you or someone else could pick it up by playing around with it.
You may also want to talk to your Fraternity/Sorority Advisor on campus...he/she may have brochures from other campuses that could give you some ideas (I know I have a ton of them in my office!).
Congratulations on your position!!

Your new guys are your biggest PR source, give them rush shirts to wear and encourage them to mention your activities to their friends.
