Donations for Children Affected by Hurricane
Please give me your feedback!
I'm working with my chapter president to see what we can do to help out the victims of the hurricane down here in the Blazin' SW, but in the meantime, I saw where a local radio station was doing a teddy bear drive for traumatized children. I thought it would be a chance fo us to show once again that we're about the service and reach out to the next generation of greeks-to-be.
My question is: IF PRESENTED THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN A STUFFED ANIMAL DRIVE TO BE DONATED TO KIDS DISPLACED BY THE HURRICANE, WOULD YOU? (preferably elephants from Sorors- but none would be turned away)

where to...
I'm in Dallas right now and we are housing aprrox 1 thous. people at the reunion arena. Also, they are in the process of trying to move people to the Astrodome in Houston. A friend works for fedex, so I was gonna see what his station could do to help out. But I guess you could send it to me- Right now I'm really just trying to see if its even a viable idea.

I think it is a great idea and folks would get involved behind this project. When it's all official, be sure to let us know, a number of us here are on Delta listserves that could be used to spread the word.

Thank you!
Thank you for your input. I have an orientation for volunteers tomorrow morning with the Amer. Red Cross to find out what they need us to do. From there I'll see how many children there are (approx.) and what venues to take to get them toys/supplies. From there I'll update you all...

I think its a great idea. Also, what about formula and bottles for the babies? I know every mother doesn't breastfeed and those babies have to eat.

I imagine the school systems who have taken on extra students will need school supplies, namely paper and pencils and pens.

Right, and even if they did breast feed, their own health and stress may prevent it at this time.

Im not a soror...but if there is anything that I can do to help please let me know. I just donated $150 today. (Half of my paycheck) but I believe in service and helping people in need. Committment, Service and Sacrifice are the three things I live by.

Muchas Gracias!
Thank you again everyone for such positive responses. I have recv'd the go ahead from my chapter pres. to make this work, but again I wont have any definite info until tomorrow afternoon. I will be at orientation with the Red Cross from 8-4p. When I get all finalized I will post that info. Until then, keep praying until we get on God's nerves!
@ Unknown- Sweetie, at this point its not about greeks. These people need our support. To a child, a stuffed animal can be their foundation of security in a stressful situation. I just figure, we can't give them home back, but we can give them something to start over with.

I think you have come up with a wonderful idea, but I just heard on CNN that people are being asked to send money donations. It has become too hard to ship in goods. But with money they can buy what is needed from nearby areas.
I'm sure you will find out more at the Red Cross training. Kudos to you for your leadership.

Yes, I thought about it last night and baby supplies are a good idea too, I heard diapers are needed as well.

Oh no I totally understand. But I didnt know from reading your intial post if you were looking to organize something amongst Deltas but Nevermind....
Anyway, yes where ever help is needed then I will try my best to be there. I have family in New Orleans, some we know are safe, some we still have not heard from. Everytime I wake up I want to believe that everything will be over but i when I see the news it seems like things are only getting worse...

Our national website has been updated to reflect Delta's involvement. Non-Deltas are also invited to contribute: www.deltasigmatheta.org. It was just updated so it may take a couple of days to reach your browser.
