Great, so now I can buy a lime green short-sleeve suit and a new $75 washing machine to put in my front lawn all in one place!

Not quite.

The holding company will be called Sears Holding Co. and a lot of the people on the board will be K Mart people. They will keep their own names as far as the actual stores are concerned.

This is undoubtedly a move to have more buying power against jackasshole Walmart. I would think this would make them bigger than Target, but I guess not (they are probably counting Mervyn's and the other non-Target things Target owns).

The "K" stands for the original name of the company, S.S. Kresge and Company. The K-Mart name first appeared in the 1960s.

As far as Target is concerned, they have a lot of different stores, but changed from Dayton Hudson to Target as a corporate name in 2000. Off the top of my head I can remember Mervyn's, Dayton Hudson, Marshall Field's, and some catalog company are all under Target.

Ignorance is bliss... time for a history lesson:

The S.S. stands for Sebastian Spering Kresge, who started what now is KMart in Detroit in 1899. The KMart name dates back to 1962.

BTW, the Nazi SS stood for Schutzstaffel which literally translates to 'protection squad'. Unlike the Nazi party army, the SA (Sturmabteilung, literally "assault detachment"), the SS was originally formed as a personal bodyguard for Hitler and other high-ranking Nazi party officials. Himmler later corrupted it into the Aryan master-race army/extermination machine.

This absolutely cracked me up.
My dad has worked for K-Mart as a manager of the food division of a Super-K for about the last 10 years or so. He hates it, hates the way the company is run, the way they treat employees, etc.
He's been interviewing for other jobs.
Two days ago, he was offered and accepted a much better job, paying much more, better benefits, etc. for Shop 'n Save.
He gave his notice yesterday.
This morning this news hits.
So yeah, everyone at work thinks he knew something!

It definitely has Detroiters worried about more jobs going away soon. CompuWare announced 300 layoffs today too. It seems to be the top news every day lately, more layoffs.

You're an idiot.

To associate an entire company with a terror organization like the KKK is ignorant at best and libelous at worst.
