Looks Like Texas' Number Is Up
While its 5 days away, the H on the Texas coast is exactly 30 miles due south of my family's home. If it makes landfall there as a strong cat 3 or higher, their house is toast.

Wow. I hope your family will be alright.
Looks like it would catch a little bit of Austin too.
Do you have a link for that?

Let's hope it takes a left. Neither TX or LA needs this.

You are so right. It would be awful for it to hit Houston.... There are SO many evacuees still there. I would hate for them to have to go through this again.
I remember the really bad flooding in Houston a few years ago.... Anyone know how much danger there would really be from it?
I'm not sure if I'm reading that map right.... Is it saying that it might hit Houston this weekend? I'm definately supposed to be there this weekend.....

Highly unlikely it'll take a left - the rotation of the earth and the upper level steering currents will eventually cause it to turn right. Depending on the upper-level high pressure system that's over Texas, it'll influence Rita's steering in the next few days.

You are indeed reading the map correctly. The line (but they want you to focus on the whole area, not just the dotted line - as it could go anywhere).
As it reads now, it passes right over my family's house there in Sugar Land. If the track holds true, I am sure I will have a full house come Friday with my sister, nephew and mother. (Brother in law will have to stay in Houston and work - hes a cop).
Its from noaa.gov.

If it turns to the left any, my house will get hit pretty hard. I'm glad hurricanes don't usually hit Montreal.

I wonder what the chances are of my Dr. boy having to evacuate to my apartment in Austin.... Hmm.... Probably slim to none.
I do have friends (well, an ex) who live in Sugarland. I hope they are keeping an eye on this.

I think it is possible for the storm to change paths.. just last night they projected it making landfall around Corpus Christi... so I guess anything is possible.
I hope everyone stays safe though.
