need poem ideas

ok, I am spoiling all the new pledges and even the current sisters. Since I am so excited about be an AST again, I am going all out. Lol.

Anyways, I was going to print out a poem and put in each gift that I am mailing to the new and old delta pi's..

So anyone have a good cute AST poem or sister poem i can send. I know they have already received What is a Tau? so I need something else.

And of course my ast scrapbook is at home, so i don't have access to any poems or quotes I had.

So give me good ideas ladies!!

You know, I had like a million fo those, and I'm not sure what happened to them. I used to rotate them for various occasions. Here's one, its kinda long, If you send me your email address I'll send it as an attachment, so you don't have to retype it. And I'll look for my others.

Somewhere between the *procrastination* and the homework..
And the incessant forwards
and the friendships and the calls
to each other complaining about crushes and
BF!! Somewhere between the phone calls to old
friends and the "I miss you’s", the "I love you's" and
the "What are we doing tonight's?" And somewhere
between all of the changing and growing...
Somewhere between the classes and the skipping
classes...and the studying for tests...And the
PRETENDING to "study" for tests...
And the downright NOT studying for tests...
I forgot--I forgot what school was all about.
Somewhere between all the appointments, Starbuck’s coffee,
and McDonald's... Paying bills and then not paying bills...
Making plans then breaking plans... Appearing, Disappearing,
then reappearing... I forgot--I forgot what it was like to cry.
I forgot that pretending to be happy doesn't make you
happy... And that pretending to
be smart doesn't make you smart .. I forgot
that you can't just forget the past in
fear of the FUTURE... I forgot that you
can't control falling in love..
And that you can't make yourself fall in *love*
.... I learned that I can LOVE... I
learned that it's okay to mess UP....
And it's okay to ask for HELP!!!.. And it's
okay to feel like crap... I learned it's okay to complain
and whine to all your friends for a whole day........
I learned that sometimes the things you want
most you just can't have and the things that
you look for are right in front of you.
I learned that the greatest thing about
high school and college and the working world
it isn't about the parties or the
drinking or the Hookups ...
It's the *friendships*, which means taking chances.
I learned that sometimes the things we want to forget
are the things which we most need to talk about...
I learned that TIME and LOVE can heal all things...
I learned that just when you think it can't get worse - it does! ...
But with the love and support of friends - you survive...
I've learned that when you start feeling bad
about L O S I N G touch and about those that you've lost!
They too, are feeling the same way....
I learned that letters from friends are the
most important things. And that sending cards to your
friends makes you feel better! But, basically, I just learned
that my friends........ Both old and new..... Are the most important
people to me in the world AND.......without them, I wouldn't be who
I am today.....
So this is a THANK YOU to all of my friends...
For always being there. And even if we're not on good terms
or we have lost touch... I will always have an unconditional
love for you.. ~Always and forever

I got this in an e-mail a few months ago from one of my sisters...it is very motivational and uplifting...

I know a girl...
Who is amazing. She runs a few miles a day, aces her classes, organizes social events, and participates in all sorts of campus organizations. At night she may go out and have fun, but she always manages to get everything done.

I know a girl...
Who will let you cry on her shoulder and will be there for you in times of need. She has lots of friends and makes sure she leaves enough time to hang with them all. She will give good advice and listen to your every word and thought with an unbiased ear. She will love you for who you are and accept you no matter what.

I know a girl...
Who will smile even though she didn't have the greatest day. She always brings her most positive attitude and it's contagious. Those who are around her want to smile too.

I know a girl...
Who will bring out the best in everyone she meets. She has friends in many different houses on this campus as well as friends that are not greek because she doesn't care what house you're in. Who parties it up at fraternity parties, but goes many other places at night also.

You might know this girl too...
Whether you're in a house or not, everyone knows one of these girls. She is my sister. She might be your sister, or she might be someone elses. Those that know this girl know what sororities are all about because she represents them in full.

Sororities aren't about drinking and boys and Kate Spade and Gucci. Sororities are about laughter, tears, friendship, sisterhood, honor, loyalty and love. The people in my sorority want me to succeed. They help me learn to rise up and allow others to follow. At retreats we share in times that we will remember forever. But it's not just my sorority. Homecoming, Socials, Family weekend, and other Greek activities have given me the opportunity to find out what is unique about each sorority, and I really find wonderful friends among them all.

We need to let other people know who we are. Greeks are not exclusive-- they are merely one group of many.

I have heard the jokes, we all have...about what non-Greek students may think about us. But I challenge you- prove them wrong. Don't just try to make your house look good, try to make greeks look good.

Let people know that we are athletes, we are scholars, we come from diverse backrounds, and we have diverse goals. But let them know that we have similarities. We are all in the constant pursuit of success. We are all working to achieve our goals, and we are all making friendships that last a lifetime

So remember...
62% of campus leadership positions are held by Greeks
76% of campus honoraries are Greek
89% of US Supreme Court justices have been Greek
Of the country's 50 largest companies, 43 are headed by Greek alumni

So be proud, prove people wrong.... Remember that although my sorority may have different history and ideals than yours, but we all are here for common reasons.

Sorry to crash your board but try searching the internet under sisters or sisterhood. I know for our big/lil revealing we need a poem and I found a really good one on the internet. That was two years ago so I'm sure there's many more out there!

Ok, I found 2 short ones, I like.. I like the ones you posted but the shorter the better, since I am making 20 copies of the poems and gluing them to yellow carboard.. So tell me which one you like the best.

Poem A:

What is a sister?

She is someone you turn to whenever you are down,

She lifts you up, puts you back, and takes away your frown,

She is someone to steal the sorrow, and she will take your pain away,

She will help you change tomorrow, and face each newborn day,

So there is never a need to worry, for we are always here,

Never in to much of a hurry, to wipe away a tear,

When you came to meet us, I hope know that is what you saw,

And now you have the LOVE & SISTERHOOD,

of ALPHA SIGMA TAU!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Poem 2

Alpha Sigma Tau

A is for ambition for sorority to grow
L is for the love that we have come to know
P is for the patience we've learned to have for all
H is for the helping hand we found at every call
A is for attachment, we feel for every sorority

S is for sisterhood, born here, held dear tomorrow
I is for ideals which we'll always strive to keep
G is for gratitude, for the happiness we reap
M is for the memories, which always will remain
A is for affection, each graduate retains

T is for tomorrow, we'd like to share with you
A is for always, though college years are few
U is for unfinished, which our poem must be,

'Cause we will never find the words to describe AST
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
ok, either one of those are for the new members.. I got yellow AST tumblers, that I am writing each girls name on it, then inside will be the poem, a stuffed frog (our chapter mascot), and candy.

I think this is the poem I am sending to the 9 current sisters.
I love you as my sister

There is one thing in life,
that you must always know:
I'm here for you forever,
Wherever you may go.
I'll be here in darkness,
When you hold your head low
or even in silence,
for the hurt you can't show.
On the bright days of happiness shining so clear
you can count on me for a smile to hear
You'll never be alone in your path through life
Because you have a friend who will share
in your strife.
Never forget these words I have to say:
I love you as my sister each and every day
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sorry, for such a long post. Lol.. I can't wait to get everything and make these gifts and send them. Of course my little is getting several extras since I am so proud of her and she is my little..
Anyways, which poem do u like for the new members, Poem 1 or poem 2?
What is a sorority?
If it is really anything at all,
A sorority is not entirely
A flower,
National conventions
Monogrammed rings
Worn-out rush songs
By-laws
Membership standards
Or a pearl-encrusted pin.
And it is not entirely
An institution
A creed
A legacy
An obligation
Or a way of life.
If you are really going to insist that it is something, a sorority is:
Moving into the house for the first time and slowly learning that all beautiful people have fat legs, use mouthwash and wear last year's shoes.
Sitting next to an alumna you don't particularly like and being nice because you have a common goal and she has been where you are now.
Long, tired hours of black coffee and study hall when you still can't remember the Renaissance architects or the anatomy of a paramecium.
Borrowing a skirt from Betsy and a blouse from Jennifer and shoes from Stephanie and a coat from Cathi and passing it all off as your own.
Sitting on the back steps listening to your pledge sister with helplessness because she's lost and she's lonely and it seems like the whole world just fell into a bunch of ugly little pieces.
Coming home very late one night and closing the door to tell your sister who's seen you through the hardest years of your life that you're happy now and you're getting married.
And a sorority is, I suppose, a kind of evaluation. You grow up inside these elegant halls and perhaps you do learn more of this circus we call life than if you lived somewhere else.
You learn that a football player is sometimes just shoulder pads and that skinny arms sometimes hide a great man.
You learn that some lecture halls are just watery echoes and that there are silent rooms for your deep rivers.
You learn that no matter where you came from, or who brought you here, you still have to find that one small acre that belongs to you on your own.
You learn that the world is made up of people you're not going to like, and you learn to live with them anyway.
You learn to wait because change is slow and change isn't always right.
You learn that there is still a lot left to believe in and a whole lot more to hope for.
You learn that love has never been easy and that it's a long time coming.
And if you're very smart or very lucky, you learn that no matter how big or how messy the world becomes, what is precious and what is enduring will always be the same.
And in the end, a sorority can only be a better way to stumble down the back steps and out the front door.
