Cool COB Questions and Advice

Hey everyone,

I was just curious how the COB process works. Does it extend into Spring semester even if recruitment was in fall? Also, I wanted some advice about filling out the forms. I don't know how to make myself look like someone they would want for a new member just by reading a form. I don't have a very high GPA (I'm very honest about it and I do have a valid reason) but I've been working very hard and am successfully raising it. I have a lot of great qualities I guess I'm just not sure how to make myself stand out on paper. Any help would be great.

One word: depends.

It depends totally on your school and how the greek system there works. Some schools you wouldn't have a problem, some schools you wouldn't have a chance in hell.

You best bet is to talk to the panhel office at your school and maybe even some sorority members if you know any.

GlitterGirl...are you straightedge by any chance? I just noticed the X's on your name and such is the traditional notation on the internet for a straightedger.

most npc chapters have a minimum gpa requirement to be considered for membership. its not to be snooty, its because they all want to make sure that their new members are able to manage their time well. sorority life is fun and action packed, and if you don't know how to manage your time, your grades will suffer. some chapters minimum gpa requirement is higher than the one required by your college panhellenic . each chapter can set their own. all the npc sororities stress academics, because, after all, we are there for an education.

your best bet is to continue to work to raise your gpa, as you are doing. check out the chapter websites on your campus and find out what their minimum gpa requirement is. if you are below that figure, make that your goal. if your gpa meets the minimum, then go ahead and contact the panhellenic office to enroll in cob. other than that, joining another type of organization or becoming involved in student government, something extracurricular, will be a plus for you. good luck!

Really? wow, I learned something new today. I always thought it meant "somebody else has this name so I put a kiss on either side."
