Titling your car in VA

Good lord, this is ridiculous! I'm new to NoVA, and I want to register my car this month. I've done all the inspections, and I'm going to the DMV in the morning, but I'm all in a panic because THIS PAPERWORK IS RIDICULOUS! Why does the state of VA need to know the gross weight and net weight of my vehicle? How many axles do I have?

That and I am freaking out because I can't find my current California registration. I have one that is expired from the prior year, but somehow my current registration is not in my car. HELP.

This stinks. Any advice? I plan on getting there early. I need to get all this stuff done by end of Oct. before my CA tags expire.

As far as axles, unless you have a big rig you have the regular 2 axles. But yeah, you gotta have your Cali registration. You might be able to have them fax a copy.

Note: I used to live in VA Beach and Alexandria, VA so it has been a while since I have dealt with Virginia DMV

I've never had to deal with registration in NoVA, but the DMV is all about paperwork. Have you gotten your VA license yet? Don't fret about it either.

Where in NoVA are you?

All of my friends who have moved here to VA went to a mechanic and had them help fill out all the necessary paperwork. It's a lot.

Um, good luck. DMV stereotypes were invented in VA. Plus they just half of them down. I tried to update my license online but still haven't been able to get that processed. And this is ON LINE.

I live in Arlington. I realized I was screwed this weekend when I couldn't find my current CA registration, but I went to the DMV anyway. They were surprisingly helpful and although I have to go back-- I still needed to switch over my car insurance to VA-- and the manager on duty gave me his hours and full name and told me to bypass the line and just come see him this week-- it was a good experience. Surprisingly better than Florida and California DMV's... maybe I just got lucky.
