Smile Chapter reunion!

I just got back from my chapter's 10th (oops, I mean 9th!) reunion. I had such a good time!

A bunch of alums came in for the weekend. I only knew one; the others all joined after I graduated. It was kind of awkward at first, walking up to this group of strangers who all knew each other already, but within a short time I felt like I'd known them for ages. You know the feeling you get as a PNM when you meet that one group and you just know you're home? It was a little like that.

The alumnae chair (an active sister who'd just pledged last spring) made very certain that everyone got to meet the alum who graduated way back in 1997. I'm not even 30 yet and I'm a crusty old alum! I told some stories about what things were like back in the day, and in turn I got caught up on what the chapter has been up to these past few years.

One of the events we attended is a relatively new fundraiser, a spaghetti dinner to benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. The sisters had set out a lot of information about AEPhi. The rho chi's must deaffiliate for the fall semester now that we have deferred recruitment; it was amusing watching everyone trying to peek under the Post-It notes on the composite. Some of our history books had been set out for guests to peruse. We got hold of a couple of them and swapped stories and reminisced (I even found a pic of myself and my husband dancing at one of our semiformals - granted, we were in the background ).

The one alum I already knew, it turns out, is a chapter advisor, and one of her pledge sisters is on an advisory team. Good for them!

I am so proud of my chapter and all that they have accomplished, and it amazes me to know that I helped start it all. And I'm proud to call each of these women my sister.
