Our girl kicker scored twice!
Our kids attend a quad-A high school and this year, the team recruited a girl to kick. They already had 2 good kickers but they must've seen talent! Last night, they called her to kick for the first time and the crowd went wild! The kick was good and we all went berserk...I'm sure the fans in the opposing stands were wondering what was going on--hey, all that for 1 point? Then she scored again later!
A big yea for Emily--

Congratulations!! I have a little story to tell as usual. I went out for my high school football team because I wanted to be a place kicker. I didn't tell anyone before I went to tryout. At the tryout, I was far better than the other folks (because I played soccer for YEARS and had been training on the football for about a year just for this opportunity.) The guys and the coach were really happy because the team had, in the past, been at a disadvantage in that department.
So, when we went to clear it with the administration, they claimed that their insurance wouldn't pay for a woman (even though they had multiple women's sports teams.) When the rest of the school found out - this was an old country Georgia school, by the way - most of the students who cared were not too pleased. There were a few female students who liked the idea though. Needless to say, I didn't make the team and I have remembered that all these years!!!

Remember Katie Hnida, the woman place kicker at the University of Colorado who was the subject of some of the controversy surrounding sexual misconduct allegations in the football program there.
She also kicked for her high school football team -- as well as being Homecoming Queen as I recall.

We do it the other way up here - division 1 is huge and division 6 is tiny.

Point of clarification -- I'm talking about high schools here.

Oh no,y'all, this isn't my daughter! This is a great girl at my daughters' high school. We are sooo proud of her!
Her identical twin is a varsity cheerleader. My daughter was standing next to her when her sister kicked and said, "She was so excited for Emily that she wet her pants and had to leave the field!"
