Exclamation Kerry Lies about Martin Luther King Jr.

ELECTION 2004
Another Kerry whopper?
Recalls hearing of '68 Martin Luther King murder while in Vietnam

WASHINGTON – Speaking at a Martin Luther King Day celebration last year, presidential candidate John F. Kerry told a Virginia audience that he remembered hearing the tragic news of the assassination while serving in Vietnam – though he did not begin his four-month tour of duty for at least seven months after the shooting. I remember well April 1968, I was serving in Vietnam, a place of violence," Kerry told the assembled, according to a report by Fox News Channel's Brit Hume. "When the news reports brought home to me and my crewmates the violence back home and the tragic news that one of the bullets flying that terrible spring took the life of Dr. King."

Splitting hairs

At the time he was deployed to the Western Pacific on the USS Gridley in waters adjacent to Vietnam. So I see nothing contradictory in what he said.

of course you wouldn't did he say he was deployed to the Western Pacific? No. He said Vietnam.

The Gulf of Tonkin is a body of water that lies on the East Coast of North Vietnam and the West Coast of the island Hainan.

It's a staging area meaning close enough for the US to deploy air support. Far enough away to avoid enemy fire.

From what I know of the times speaking to Vets and watching Good Morning Vietnam. A lot of news was censored and kept from US soldiers.

He was in the Vietnam Conflict Arena but not on the actual soil.

Exactly! And he was deployed on the USS Gridley beginning Feb. 1968 until Nov. 1968.

So if how he phrased it is considered a lie, then there are A LOT of Vertnam Vets who have lied. So don't just stop at Kerry--go after them all for daring to misrepresent what they did for this country.

Just more of that good old GOP smear bulls#*t.......I can't see why they just can't comprehend this simple fact......JOHN KERRY served in Vietnam while Bush took the punk way out and failed to show up for duty and then left early to ensure that he wouldn't see any fighting.....some war president.

I guess it depends on whether you believe he mis-spoke or lied. i believe the latter. Kerry lies so much, its hard to tell.

As compared to president stupid who only lies when it's necessary to justify a war, necessary to distract us from the ORIGINAL folks we "had" to go after, about his service record, about his financial dealings, his drug history or his educational policies?

It's all a matter of perception and for right now the biggest lying threat to my future is currently residing at the White House.

There are several thing we must answer before the hypothesis "Kerrly Lies about MLK Jr." could be proven either true or false.

The first question is what does he meant by him saying he was serving in Vietnam?

Was the USS Gridley part of the Vietnam operation when he was on board?

Then there is the location of the USS Gridley during Kerry's time in the Vietnam War.

I shall used the website to try to determine where the USS Gridley was. According to it:

Quote:
Kerry has often referred to his yearlong tour of duty on the USS Gridley as his first tour of Vietnam, even though the frigate only approached the coast in the Gulf of Tonkin.
The part of the Gulf of Tonkin is part of Vietnam.

The question arise, where in the Gulf of Tonkin was the USS Gridley located during Kerry's tenure at the ship?

LORD HAVE MERCY!!!Do we have to pinpoint the exact location? HE WAS THERE! I can't pinpoint Osama Bin Laden and neither can Dumbya. I do not see why this is important. You can tell when the other side sees the ship is sinking. Can we stay on the REAL issues of this election? I cram to understand where Kerry was in 1968 is going to get me better healthcare, cleaner air or a better education system. If gas was .99 then we could talk about this. However, gas is $2.00 for regular and CLIMBING. We need to get rid of the clown we have in the White House.
