Fondest APO Memories

Brothers,
The other day, I was thinking of all the fond memories I have experienced with my chapter and the fraternity as a whole. For instances, some of our Service projects, and fellowships were very
memorable. The day we became chartered, sitting on our bench, and probate time is always exciting. I just was hoping that perhaps some of you would like to share some of your fondest memories with other brothers. Can't wait to hear from you.

one of many fond memories

My memories of the National Convention in Philadelphia 2000 can't be summarized in just one story that has a beginning, middle, and an end. . .but snapshots in my mind that all run together in no particular order. . .

At Union Station in Washington, DC, me and my chapter Brother Jason ("Animal" #6-MA-Fa99) stopped at the McDonald's to grab some breakfast before we left. Jason was reading a biography of W.E.D. DuBois, and I had passed onto him the packet of proposed amendments to read over on the train ride up to Philly. . .it was a great train ride. We kept singing "Philly-Philly. . .philly where I am from. . "

We had plans to share a room with Bro. Neil Wade from Alpha Phi Chapter at Wash. U. in St. Louis. That in itself was an amazing time, sharing ideas from two vastly different chapters.

I met Randy Finder for the first time at the opening ceremonies. I was like "WOW! That's Randy Finder!" In fact, meeting all the national board members and former presidents WAS like meeting celebrities. Col. Young was even in a workshop with me!

We finally found Neil with the Brothers from Chico, who we unfortunately never saw again, but I do keep in contact from time to time.

We met some Brothers from Alpha Epsilon in the APO Store. They were definitely on point. Truly the epitome of Friendship.

I was the only one from my chapter to attend the fellowship banquet, and it was definitely worth it. I took a picture with the National President of APO Phillipines! I also sat with the chapter from Boston University, and shared some ideas with their co-pledge trainers. We would both be in charge of our Spring '01 pledge classes.

The most random memories are from those loooong hours on the convention floor. Pledging definitely prepared me for that. You really get close to whoever your other voting delgate is. . .he had jokes on ALL the other delegates. In truth, we had jokes on everyone, including Stan "the Man" Carpenter.

In the end, the National Convention had so many memories and jokes and good times. . .it made me closer to my chapter brother, and created some bonds that last to this day. I know that I can count on Brothers from EVERYWHERE if I ever needed soemthing. I expect to have as much fun if not more this winter in New Orleans.

Actually one of my memories from Philly involved Rashid and he didn't even mention it. A Petitioning Group had sent in their charter app and the section vote at convention was being done at about 2AM in the region suite. It took about a hour to do all of the arguments and Rashid was there making very pursuasive arguments for the group...

Some of my greatest memories in my short time in APO was my 2 initiations into pledgehood and brotherhood, of course. The night that we discoevered who our bigs were was real fun. Our bigs were tied to a piece og string on the opposite side of a glass with our names on them. The only trick was that the strings were all tangled togther and it became a scavenger hunt. My glass actually ended up tied to the wrong person, so I had to be switched at birth, lol. Banquet was tight too, b/c thats when I got my jersey and all that jazz, but also b/c my big brother spoiled me rotton with these lil gifts (a talking Pooh bear, a gold lavalier with the letters and some earrings; damn I love that girl).

Something thats stands out, but wasn't all that fun, was this brotherhood where we spent hours on one issue involving a pledge that would be dropped if an absense from pledge class wasn't excused. Boy was that memorable. And that same issue, and same person, came up again two more times. Once at the final pledge review, for one last chance and once again after the line had crossed; Buffalo Soldier knows what I'm talking about. Str8 drama.

But it has all been all-to the-good. I honestly cant wait until more time has passed, so I can gain more memories. New Orleans will definitely be on the list, b/c I know I will meet a lot of interesting brothers and learn some strolls and chants, something I don't get to do at my chapter. Ooooo, I can't wait.

My memories

I enjoyed pledging. It was really fun to meet people some of whom I had never met before and work together to accomplish a task. At the end, 4 women truly became 1.

For our line's service project we helped sort and package textbooks that were going to be shipped off to a women's correctional institution. We we were talking, laughing, and just really got to know each other and we definitely felt closer after that night. We had a good time.

This past semester, our chapter had a "Chill Out Night" and we all just got together and talked, played pool. It was really fun. The pledges had some presentations to put on that were down right hilarious. We just kicked it all night

Those were fun but I know nothing can compare to what's about to go down in New Orleans.

Q5 - When Mu Alpha came over to say hello to you all, there was a Brother there (African American) who we thought was from your chapter, but he wasn't. It was Neil. . .light skinned, glasses, taller than me. . .well, anyway, it doesn't matter much now. I need to find that picture you took, scan it, and mail it to you. FYI, he's in Italy now, and he's going to go teach ESL in Japan at the end of the year.

naraht - All I remember from that evening was "mean Eta Phi girl" and Jamie and the koala slippers.

Drama Queen - You will DEFINITELY be getting your stroll on!

Virtuous Woman - Nationals will most DEF be off the hook AGAIN. It's all about MA/BI love.

Smile Mushy Moments...

This is a good question, and a good one to ask from time to time, especially during the hard times

My fondest APO moment would have to be at my line's initiation. There was so much recognition on that day for us that I could hardly believe it. Some people who had only been names and stories to me came alive that evening. The event was recognized by brothers both near and afar, and that truly amazed me. It was a good time.

Of course, it was nice to learn some of the inner workings of the fraternity at the time too

I just wanted to add. I was there! I had a great time. I was visiting Mu Alpha during a very..ummm..interesting week . That also has to be among my top APO memories. I had such a good time hanging out with brothers (and pledges..lol).

I have a ton of memories I could share with yall but the fondest lately has been getting together with my brothers and cooking dinner. Some of yall probably wont understand but we can get together and throw down in the kitchen. I mean chicken, greens, baked beans, spaghetti u name it. If we are not cooking in the hot kitchen we are somewhere at an all you can eat buffet eating CRABLEGS!!! If you come down to Nashville and kick it with Psi Phi you will understand what I am talking about.[/COLOR]

Smile Super Great Thread!

Wow, where to begin...

I have so many great memories of APO, I could sit here all day typing...

Regionals at WVU (we got to paint faces on teddy bears for the children's hospital); Sectional conferences (we took our whole pledge class (of 1) to the conference at Fairmont State College); Nationals in Philly! (remember when Kermit the Frog lost his creditials ); my pledge class service project- cleaning up Bickles Knob State Park- in late October- in WV- in freezing weather- and having a blast doing it!; being VP of Social Activities twice (putting together two formals, plus other activities, including a scavenger hunt, secret brother christmas present swap, Big/Little Kidnap Day); going to all of the formals; Adopt-A-Highway (you never know what you are going to find- nothing will ever beat the edible undies!); going to Forest Festival together; midnight runs to Buckhannon to the Donut Shop...

I could keep going on, but I figure you guys would get bored with reading this...

favorite memories

I have an awesome chapter and a bunch of memories, but one of the best had to be watching our "little brother" chapter move one step closer to reaching their charter. That was truly spectacular. (They should get it sometime this semester! )
