Unhappy I miss my cat... but I got a fish

I had to give my beautiful cat Snickers away because my roommate and her daughter are allergic. My boyfriend has also developped an allergy. My mother, brother, best friends, and a bunch of my sisters are allergic. I've never cried so much as when I had to say good bye to my baby boy.
To partially fill the void, I bought a fish. A fish. pet that no one is allergic to unless they eat it, and a pet that you can't walk, cuddle with, or even pet. He is really pretty though, and I finally named him:

Phibee. Pronounced Feebee. I said the next pet I got would have a Phi Chi related name, so that's what he ended up with. I almost named him Gamma because it comes after Beta, and that's what he is... a betta.

Anyway, yay for me and my new pet. And down with all those in my life that are allergic to cats.

Sorry to hear you had to give up your cat. Aren't pet allergies awful? I love kitties, but I can never have one because my husband is allergic.

Congrats on the new fish!

two males in same tank= fight to the death

bettas are pretty easy. just don't over feed, put a mirror next to Phibee everyonce in awhile so he gets exercise.

and if you got him(i'm assuming its a male, because basically you have to special order females cause they aren't as pretty) in one of those vases where it say that you "never have to clean the vase or feed the fish because he will eat the roots" is BULLSHITE!!! the fish WILL die from starvation. bettas-in natural habitats- eat mosquito larve=not the same as eating plant roots.

i love bettas and recently started breeding them...or at least attempting. amphipod keeps shooting fiesty down

He has a beautiful aquarium with lots of room, light, etc etc... I've had bettas before, and have always been tempted to put them in together, but my better nature won out. They had female bettas at WalMart when I went to get him. He's very active. He's also very pretty - solid red, and I think he stays pissed off because his fins are always fanned out.

My best friend had one that I gave him 3 years ago as a birthday gift. He went away for the summer, forgot to get someone to look after it, and as a result, it wasn't fed, the bowl wasn't cleaned, not once. Do you know that thing was still alive when he got back?
