Latest poll: Bush 57%. Guy who served in Vietnam 43%
Here are two more election indicators you needn’t take too seriously:
- BuyCostumes.com reports that sales of George Bush masks for this year’s Halloween are outselling Kerry masks 57% to 43%. The online retailer claims that mask sales have successfully presaged election winners since 1980. Yeah, maybe. What’s this called: “The Trick or Treat Index?” If I believe it and it fails this year, what will BuyCostumes.com say: “Boo?”
- Vietti Foods of Nashville is marketing two canned bean recipes, one for Bush and one for Kerry. The Bush label is called “Conservative Republican Texas Chili Beans” and claims “Dubya would love ‘em.” The Kerry beans are called “Liberal Democrat Boston Baked Beans” and are described this way: “Liberally-spiced Boston beans married to a rich ketchup-based sauce.” Sales at last count were 2,402 Republican cans to 2,316 Democratic beans. An executive of Vietti Foods says: “It’s not scientific,” but “it could be a barometer of public opinion.”
