I had heard that some of the groups not in the new housing were negatively impacted by it during Fraternity Rush this year. Basically, the PNMs thought that 'everyone' was out at Heritage Grove and didn't realize that several groups were still on-campus. Your thoughts??

Not so much here. We had a lot of rain and some wind from Frances. Ivan originally was set to hit us pretty hard, but now it's tracking far west. Tomorrow and Thursday should just be rainy, but not much else.

UWF might get some nasty weather, so send good throughts out to Pensacola!!

That might be the case. We pledged 9 men.

I don't think so, but we still have to see how the numbers shake out. ATO is still rushing out of their old house and I imagine the'll do well. Russell, since Phi Kappa Psi moved out of that gorgeous old mansion I don't know where they're located. Sigma Chi will probably do well. I did hear that KA was having problems with numbers, but that Pi Kappa Phi did well, and that Delta Tau Delta did especially well in rush.
Right now, there seems to be a basic division beween Heritage Grove fraternities and "College Avenue" fraternities. If all get good pledge classes then there should be no conflict. It's that way at U-Florida: there's a big fraternity row, but also lots of very good chapters are located along University and that other road that runs in front of the school (Pike, Delts; ATO, Phi Delt, etc).
Everyone here credits the Phi Kappa Taus with setting the right tone for the frist rush in Heritage Grove. They set up a professional light show; the whole entrance to the complex looked like a carnival.
This is a very good time for fraternities at FSU. The average chapter size is pretty large - probably in the 90s. Everyone should continue to do well and be strong, wherever they're located.
Of course, the sororities are amazing in every way. Old chapters, magnificently housed and lovingly watched over by generous alumni.

it is so exciting to hear of the large pledge classes of the fsu fraternities, and also exciting to hear that some have moved in at heritage grove. can't wait to see the new houses when i am next in tally! way to go guys!

Which fraternities have actually moved out to Heritage Grove? Are all of the houses built and occupied?

Naturally, I'm anxious to hear how Delta Gamma did.

I worry since they have been held in limbo by the University with regard to buying their house on North Copeland.

It makes them reluctant to undertake capital improvement projects in the house if they know the school is going to exercise
their eminent domain rights and buy it out from under them.

Will the University have space in Heritage Grove for Sororities, or is that the new Fraternity Row?

Heritage Grove is a development of 13 fraternity houses. They just opened a few weeks ago. Not all the houses are taken yet, and yes, a sorority could move in if they wanted to. We'd love to have them.
The University doesn't control the development, but they helped pay for the infrastructure and the parking lots are considered Student Parking. The FSU Police have a substation there.
Five of the houses are on large lots privately leased by fraternities that are building their own houses. These are: IIKA, LXA, ATO, Phi Delts and Sig Eps. These are called the "equity fraternities" because they've paid a lot of money to help pay for the infrastructure and to build their homes. Each house will cost around $3-4 million (and there was no land cost, so that's all house).
The Pikes and LXAs and Phi Delts will move into their new homes in January. ATO hasn't started construction yet, but their house is pictured on their chapter website. Sig Ep sold its old house and the brothers are living in one of the "Non-equity" houses until their new house is built.
There is much less chance now that the University will want to buy the DELTA GAMMA house. That was originally to be part of a performing arts center, but that project appears to have moved downtown and we have a new University president with different priorities. However, please know that WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE DG ON HERITAGE GROVE.
The fraternities living in the "Non-equity" houses are: Phi Kappa Tau, Kappa Sigma, FIJI, Pi Lambda Phi, TEKE and Sigma Phi Epsilon. The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity is also in The Grove, but they don't rush during the same time and they share a house.
Theta Chi is back on campus this fall. We're hoping SAE's and Sigma Pi's return someday soon. On College Avenue, you have: Phi Sigma Kappa, Sigma Chi, Pi Kappa Phi, KA, Sigma Nu, ATO is around the corner in the old Sigma Kappa house until their house is finished. Delta Tau Delta is nearby, as is TEP. I'm not sure where Phi Kappa Psi is, but they were in a beautiful old mansion on College. Chi Phi has a nice house but it's somewhat isolated. I may have left someone out and I'm sorry if that's the case.
There are eight 'non-equity' houses, of which 6 are occupied by fraternities (Independents rent space in the others). Each house has a gorgeous, 3-story gothic stone & brick, 48-man housing section, plus a separate club house for meetings and social functions. All the houses face a beautiful green, and the houses are across from each other.
We are trying to recruit more fraternities to move out to the Grove, and we hope that there will be increased interest now that the development has opened. We are also talking to sororities about using The Grove for their spillovers. For instance, if the ADPis have 180 gorls but they only house 30-40, they can have an entire house of their own in The Grove for the balance of their members. And they can live across the green from good fraternities. It will probably take awhile for the non-equity properties to shake out, but with 40,000 students and a great Greek system it appears to be a fantastic project with enormous potential.

That beautiful old mansion is a money pit and fire hazard. We are currently renting the Tri-Sigma house.
