I didn't get the whole story on why there was such a holdup on sending in help for the victims of the sucken submarine...Can someone fill me in? I certainly do think thatthe sooner helps arrives in most situations, the better the rate of survival will be. It is really a sad story.
And regarding these "polls"...I am registered to vote...AND even holding voter registration drives! I wasn't "polled" by anyone. By the way...Did anyone note the Large amount of African-American faces at the GOP convention? Do you think that African-Americans are becoming more successful and trading in the traditional (D) vote for the more affluent (R) ticket?

regarding the sub: it is my understanding that the russian government did not wish to ask for help right away for fear their military secrets may be exposed.
regarding the polls: i'd also like to know who they polled to come up with these numbers (or any of the polls they come up with). it's just interesting to me that bush could have lost so much ground (16 percentage points) in such a short time.

In reguards to the sub, I think that the lives of the sailors could have been saved if there had been an earlier effort to save them.
poll: my mother and I discuss this and we think that the polls don't really matter because the poll does not represent the american population, who knows who they ask questions when they take the polls. They haven't contacted me or any of my relatives or friends either.

In my opinion, I think Russian was too slow to ask for help was because of their pride. They really should of thought of those men families. If the powers that be were in the same situation wouldn't they want help immediately?
Polls: Who exactly is the John Q. Public that actually do these polls?

A couple of "real" world issues
I was listening to the news this morning and wanted everyone's opinion on a couple of articles mentioned.
1) The Russian sub that sank. This morning the BBC reported that there were no survivors and the sub was almost completely flooded. Do you think that lives may have been saved if it didn't take so long for help?
2) According to new polls released Vice President Gore and Governor Bush are in a virtual dead heat. What do you think of these random polls? Are they accurate? Has anyone actually been called by these people? No one I know has ever said that they were polled.

Again, I was listening to CNN this morning. It seems that Russia wants worldwide financial assistance to raise the submarine. Environmentalists are concerned about radioactive material leaking into the water. First, they didn't want anyone's technological help, now they want everyone's financial help?
They also said that it would probably take months to retrieve all of the bodies.
