GC Ladies Weight Loss & Body Tone Daily Support Thread

OK GC Ladies! I did it! I went yesterday and joined the gym in my neighborhood. It is opening next week and is beautiful. It is only 1 block from my house so I have no excuse now NOT to go. I thought I would start a thread where we can yell at each other on a daily basis for any excuses we make NOT to go to the gym LOL. OK, maybe that's a little extreme but I think this is a good way to provide support and discuss our weight loss and body toning goals.

I'll start:

I want to lose at least 10 pounds and get tone. Especially my J-Lo butt LOL.

Let's keep this thread primarily as a check-in/support tool.

Congrats on starting your new fitness program!

I started a new exercise program on Monday. My gym is in my basement, so I have even less of an excuse not to go than you do! I'm trying to spend some time exercising at least 3x/week.

It seems like everyone in the world is joining a new gym right about now, including myself. I try to work out for one hour, six days a week (cardio four times and weights twice). I've made it every day this week but Monday, so I should be having fun at the gym tomorrow and Saturday.

If anyone here is just starting to work out -- stick with it! Now that I've been working out pretty regularly for a few years, it's sort of like I'm addicted to it -- in a good way, lol. I feel so awesome after a good trip to the gym and I really hate to miss it!

Stick with it, ladies. I am down to 120, my standard weight before having several babies. I swear I'll never get out of shape again. Y'all will feel so, so much better after peeling off that weight.

I am also trying to get into a exercise program that I will follow regularly. Back in May/ June, I lost 7 pounds, and I am starting back again to lose another 7-10. I lost 1 pound last week, and would like to have the rest gone by my 24th birthday, on November 11th.

I have a tendency to do a fitness program for 2 months and then stop working out for one month, and then have to start back again. My goals are: 1)start a fitness program that I can carry out for 6 to 12 months with specific phases (month 1 endurance, month 2 beginning weights… etc), and 2) to eat more vegetables, and generally try to eat healthy foods and bad things in moderation. This weekend has been very bad. Yesterday I went to Jack in the box after a night of clubbing and got jalapeño poppers, and today I made sugar cookies for my neighbors as a thank you gift for giving us an old table. Of course, I had to make a batch for my roommates and I as well! But, back to the diet tomorrow!

We can do it!

I'm in!!!

Tomorrow, I start my diet, exercise, and running program again. I think the next time I see "the boy" will be in about a month, and I need to look good then.

Plus, I want my clothes to fit me again, damn it!

Yeah for this thread! I walk to work every day back and fourth...a little under 2 miles round trip but I eat crap so I need to change things. I am starting Pilates again, I want to try to lose 10 lbs and go from there.

Count me in!

I'm too large by theater standards, and I'm really trying to implement an exercise program that I can do every day (by using the campus gym). I lost a lot of weight this summer with the show, and I want to keep it off.

I've been sorta doing South Beach during the week (and slacking a bit on weekends;-) Its been working really well so far. I've also committed to working out 3 times a week. I managed to stick with it all last month so I'm upping my workouts to 3 during the week and one on the weekend. I managed to lose 8 lbs so far, and have toned up quite a bit. My goal is another 8 lbs bf the 28th for a black tie formal, and I so want to wear my dress from my last spring formal when I was in school. good luck ladies!! And just think "Is this soda/beer/cookie/fast food really worth all of the calories?"

I have always wanted to do the south beach diet. It worked really well for my mom. It is just so hard to do at a small school. We have one dinning facility. Most days there is nothing edible but pizza and salad. I can't just eat salad with all the running around campus I do.
Let me know how South Beach works for you.

I did South Beach all summer and lost about a total of 15lbs...

Then I went on vacation, drank every night, ate like crap and came home. Where my parents preceided to tell me we were moving the 5 days later so we need to eat everything out of the house. We moved. And had no stove. Or fridge.

3 weeks later, the 15lbs in back on. Amazing how hard it is to take off and so easy to put it back on.

I started South Beach again today.

ETA: My goals- lose the 30lbs since my first surgery 2 years ago, start training again for 5k runs/triathalons(I used to be a very competetive collegic athlete...3 surgerys ago), and lose the belly fat.

Wow..what a great idea! I need the support too...I lost weight last year, then put it back on due to unahppy at job and losing a very good friend to cancer. We have a YMCA membership, but I hardly use it b/c I "can't find the time.."

I did Weight Watchers last year, and it really helped. Then I dropped out, and poof...it all came back, plus some.

I think us encouraging each other will help.

look at this! soo many benefits on greek chat !!

I have to say, after a modelling agency hung money in front of my nose, the pounds came off pretty resolutely! I have basically become a nutritionist. Since may of 2004 i have lost 25 lbs and I have these tips:

~Set time goals (MAKE SURE THEY ARE REALISTIC!)~
if you have a set time when you should lose 4lbs, make a celebration follow! Buy yourself a treat (of the non-edible kind) like a pair of earrings, or treat yourself to a pedicure. Example, sept 6th I should be at 38.5 inches or at 145 lbs. If I wake up and make it.. it's spa time baby!

~Diet/Exercise Intervals
I did this with two week intervals. I would exercise and diet really hard and strict for two weeks (in my mind i was thinking.. it's only two weeks of my life) and then for one week I would level out, eat a few things that I was craving or missed.. but sparingly! That way I wasnt depriving myself completely. Then go back to my two weeks of my hardcore diet regiment. It's really good to level out on caloric intake for your metabolism's sake!

~LIVE BY THIS~
Breakfast: Like a Queen
Lunch: Like a Princess
Dinner: Like a Pauper
Breakfast is the best time to eat the most, and if you happen to be pmsing.. you can def. have your serving of chocolate or ben and jerry's in the AM to satisfy you.. cuz it's when your metabolism is kicking in high gear. Taper down to dinner and don't eat past 7:00.. esp. if you go to bed early

WHITE STARCH RULE:
EVIL nasty over-processed white food. Potatoes, rice, bread, snacks. They suck. Who wants to put over-processed anything into their body? Even au natural potatoes and rice are evil. Just swear em off from now on!

Motivation
so you step on the scale and viola.. you have gained 3 lbs even though you have been sooooo good!! well then you say screw this and run to the kitchen and eat a tub of edy's. Scales lie becuz of water weight... esp. if you take a diet supp. Before you go to bed.. if you weigh yourself in the am.. take a water pill. The loss of an extra pound will sooo motivate you to be an angel all day!!!

Did i write enough? I just jump at any oppertunity I can to share my experience with weight loss... and what I have learned from trying lots of different things, and learning what works for my body. I am so proud to have had hard work and a lot of research physically pay off!!Good luck.. and hopefully I will keep my fresh. 15 off!
