StreetBall
What's your opinion?
I personally think this stuff is crap. These "players" complain that the NBA never gives them love, yet the only way they can do all those unimpressive tricks is because they violate several NBA rules (self pass, carrying, traveling). I see all these people in the audience going out of their minds, and it's always the stuff every day. How many ways can you dunk a basketball before you start playing some defense?
They may be talented, but they're a side show, a novelty, just like Slamball.

They don't complain about the NBA not giving them love. Where'd that come from? Most of the dudes getting paid by And1 have already/or are still trying to get in the NBA. Rafer "Skip To My Lou" Alston was once an And1 player. There are a few others who I think used to be And1 players as well. And also, with out the tricks that they do, then And1 would be boring as hell. Why do you think they call it "STREET" ball? Most of these dudes get their nicknames from the skillz that they have like Hotsauce and Future(handles/dribbling skillz), 50 and Go Get It(Hops/Vertical jumps). There are PLENTY of ways to dunk a ball if you know bball like I know it. And even better when you dunk on somebody! O and don't sleep on defense. Hotsauce and the Professor have gotten ripped a few times when it seemed impossible to steal the ball from them. Go watch one of the And1 tapes and you'll see why folks like it so much.

while rafer alston had a pretty solid season (enough to get horrifically overpaid - tough NBA market, lol), he's been cut something like 8 or 9 times before - only when he quit the and1 tour did he improve his game enough (specifically, his jumpshot and his d).
a couple of the dudes (escalade, et al) played low-level college ball, and they're all fairly solid - but in all honesty, it is 100% a sideshow, and any whining about the NBA (which happened more last season, admittedly) is totally posturing for the camera, as alston has proved the opportunity exists if you prove yourself good enough. i mean, the and1 team lost like 3 times this season to the goofball squads they played . . . it's entertaining, even if it needs to be separated more from 'real' basketball due to the extremely poor habits it promotes on the court (like 1-on-4 'handles' and rewarding cherrypicking).

Skip didn't quit. Where'd that come from? O he quit when he got a spot in the NBA. He wasn't getting overpaid IMO. LeBRON WAS OVERPAID! And if And1 being a sideshow was the case, then obviously the Harlem Globetrotters wouldn't exist by now. That AND the fact that Earl "The Goat" Manigault would've BEEN making big money for embarrassing folks on the streetball courts at the Rucker. I don't know where folks get the idea that the And1 stuff is fake. IT'S REALLY NOT! I had a cousin who actually played with them when they was in New Orleans one year and he showed me the tape in which Main Event jumped over his big ass almost from the freethrow line and dunked on him! And they didn't lose to goofball squads. So the NY Team is a goofball squad? If you ask me, the NY Team had people like Future, Booger, and I'll Be Right Back playing for them. They are Rucker Park legends. I tell you what.... Ask Kobe if the And1 streetballers or any other streetball legendary teams fake. Cause um, he sure didn't do to much when he got up at the Rucker.

Re: Re: Re: Re: StreetBall
jesus jackmove, you didn't read my post at all, specifically when i said "alston improved his game past streetball, then got a job" and "they're all good players, some played some college ball" . . .
and kobe prob got clowned at the playground; that doesn't mean much, am i wrong? bottom line: if ao or the professor or etc were good enough, they'd have pro contracts, period.
ps - lebron overpaid? are you f-ing kidding? check the gate receipts, he paid for himself - alston having one decent season and getting re-upped is stupid.

I read your post. You said he quit And1 and went to try out for the NBA. That's what I was getting at. And YES he was over paid. He was being paid 90 million before he even played an nba game!

I love Streetball. LOVE it! I think it's more entertaining than NBA. I don't think NBA players have the passion that those in College ball do...but that's a different story.

NBA has lost it's team strategies I believe. Most of the players on the teams just want to get their stat counts up and want to be the hero of the squad. There is no more team effort if u ask me. I'd rather watch the WNBA nowadays. At least they play with heart and at least they play better team ball.

Let's just say that entertainment is my main thing. ESPECIALLY when it comes to hip hop.
