Women who write you rec's

Hello all--
This is just a note to all the PNM's who are getting rec's from family friends, family members, co workers, etc. Ultimately(and please back me up on this, intiated sorority women if you agree), the person who wrote you a rec's common goal is for you to find a home where you feel happy, accepted, and will have the same great greek experience that all of us have had with our groups. If that's their house, that is wonderful but if it ends up not being a fit, PLEASE don't feel we will be mad at you or feel like it was disrespectful of you not to become our sorority. We just want to hear all about how happy you are and how much fun you are having with your new sisters! All sorority women know that chapters can be different at every school and even years can have changes on their very own chapter but trust me--a PNM's happiness, whereever she ends up, is our ultimate goal!
I just had to put that out there. If I am totally off base, feel free to let me know!

Just to add to that--there are many reasons for releasing a woman, and they are not things that the chapter members are at liberty to discuss with alumnae.
Often, there may be things that come up that the alumna who wrote the rec was not aware of, that make the chapter think that the PNM may not be able to contribute to the well-being of the chapter.
Also--just because a PNM tells an alumna that she is in interested in XYZ doesn't mean she is telling that chapter the same thing.

Bottom line--trust your sisters!

A recommendation is just an introduction to the chapter. The chapter and the PNM will ultimately decide if the fit is right.

And yes, PNM's, we want you and our sororities to be happy with your respective new member classes! If our sorority wasn't right for you, we're happy to have given you an opportunity to meet them and hope you will be happy with your choice, too, whether that choice includes sorority life or not.
