Talking So the weirdest thing happened this week...

Last Friday afternoon, my grandmother was up in Boston with a Red Hat Society tour group to go to the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Gardner Museum (both fantastic, BTW). She arranged with the tour organizer to be able to get away from the group for a couple hours so she and I could meet for formal afternoon tea (it's one of our grandma/granddaughter bonding things that we've done since I was seven). We only see each other a couple times per year due to her being in Pennsylvania, so it's always a treat (and she's now 85, so I don't know how many more of these I have with her).

We're catching up, and I mention to her that I was pursuing membership in Beta Sigma Phi. And my grandmother gets this surprised look on her face and said how she didn't think they were still around!

Turns out that my grandmother was a MEMBER of Beta Sigma Phi back in the 1960's! But her local chapter didn't last very long, and when it folded, her membership interest waned off as well (and then shortly thereafter, two sons were in Vietnam and another was protesting... and well, you get the idea... life gets in the way).

TODAY... I receive a small box in the mail with a note from her-- with her membership badge and a little note that she's happy that she can pass this on within the family (especially since she only had boys)! It's safely put away for when I find a chapter of my own.

Just thought I'd share a sweet little moment. I guess I wasn't the weird Greek in my family after all!

That's such a sweet story! I hope you find a chapter of your own soon so you can wear your special badge

That is a cute story! How cool is it that your grandma could soon be your sister!

She is a sweetie (although we're both very independent, so we have butted heads often). She's just an amazingly passionate woman about living life that it's infectious. I can only hope that when I'm in my mid-80's I have the energy and desire to keep active like she does!
