LSU Rush Attire.

Hello everyone-

I am writing this on behalf of my little cousin who will be going through rush this fall at LSU. She's a beautiful, smart, and caring young lady and whoever she decides to pledge will be truly honored (in my opinion.) I was at her house the other night (we are like brother and sister) and she was showing me all of her different outfits. Now, I'm a guy...so I don't really know what to tell her to wear, so I was wondering if you lovely ladies could give her some suggestions? She's not too fond of the computer, so I'll just print out your responses. She's worried about not dressing right (although she dresses well to me?) I'm not the expert in this topic...you gals are!!! Thanks in advance.

Well, I'm not sure about LSU, but she should (if she hasn't already) receive a recruitment packet. The packet should have in it what to wear for each day. Each school is different. Some schools have specific t-shirts for the girls to wear for first rounds; others may have you wear something nice (like khakis and a nice top) Usually the dress attire gets more dressy and "classy" as the rounds go by.

Have her check her packet, if she has it. If not have her check her school panhel website.

When i was thinking about going to LSU, i browsed the sororities online. They have a great website that shows great examples of what to wear to each party.

Like everyone else said, look at the website and then err on the side of being a little over-dressed (if they say shorts are ok wear capris or pants, if they say denim is ok wear khakis). It is always better to be over-dressed than under-dressed.

LSU rivals Ole Miss in recruitment attire I would say.

Dressy but cute and make sure she looks put-together...and don't wear a watch...some houses look at a watch and if it isn't something pricey they might release you...and plus there will be no need to look at your watch if you are bored, you know always checking the time....

I have to say, I believe that a house that did so would be doing me a favor.

Well, my little cousin dragged me along with her to the mall today to pick out some clothes for rush. It was great to spend time with her, but I really couldn't give her an opinion due to the fact that I have NO clue as to what is appropriate for rush. Everything she bought was ultra conservatice (not showing ANYTHING what-so-ever) because that's what she's been advised to do. However, she did buy a strapless (is that what you call it?) Dress for preference night. It's really pretty and all, but she's a little worried about it due to the fact that it doesn't have straps? What do you ladies think about that?

Anyway, I really feel bad for what you girls go through in prepping for rush! I couldn't imagine having to buy so many different outfits and what not. I don't know what I'd do if I had to actually "plan" out what I was going to wear for an event that is WEEKS away. Shoot, I'll probably just roll out of bed and throw on a collared shirt and some khaki shorts and go, hah! Now, I did hear this-that guy's are urged to wear solid shirts. I don't know why, but I guess they've got something against the stripes and plaids? I don't know, not too sure about all that... but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Another question, about the watches. I wear my watch ALL the time (I sleep with it on), so I don't know if I'd be able to not wear it during rush...I would feel weird without it. Is it that big of a deal if I guy has a watch on? I figure it wouldn't be...and if they don't like it, then they don't have to extend me a bid! LOL!

Anyway, thanks so much for all of your advice on behalf of my cousin. She's really looking forward to finding her new home at LSU.

maybe something from Arden abbey (sp?) t has cute stuff that is between preppy and sexy.

no short skirt or high heels, but something comfy and cute looking. Jeans is a definitely no no. Slacks or long dress is cute. I am a big fan of brown and beige colors. Although lavendar and green is the new color in the season.

I'm one of those people that think strapless is fine unless your boobs are hanging out, but it really depends on how conservative the school is.

She should be OK with a strapless. The two recruitment information sessions that I went to this summer had LSU girls modeling outfits. A couple of girls wore strapless for Round 3 & Preference. Good luck to your cousin. My neighbor is going through as well and she is super excited.

I am an LSU sorority alumni. I gradutated in 1999. Even though that was a few years ago, I definitely remember the fashion do's and don'ts. (In fact, they're ingrained in my head!) Your cousin should use whatever packet she was given for dress code on each day as a general guideline. The strapless dress should be ok, as long as it does not show too much cleavage or is too short. The sororities at LSU are big on being "cute" and in style, but not overly trendy. She shouldn't show up in anything that is too tight, too revealing, etc., but it sounds like she should be ok if she bought things that are more on the conservative side. Her hair and make-up should be nice and not over the top. We never made any judgements on whether or not rushees wear watches, in fact, it makes sense to do so - so that you're not late to any of the parties. (The sorority members themselves are not allowed to wear watches though.) Also tell her not to wear any perfume, at least during the Ice Water parties and maybe round 2. With a lot of girls in a room at one time, it can give everyone headaches... Let me know if you have any other questions!

also as an LSU alum... a few things to remember for your cousin and attire...

I graduated not too many years ago so I doubt that the recruitment attire has changed that much...
1. Remember that it is the middle of august and she will be standing outside in the heat (or rain) for probably a "few" minutes in between parties. so may I suggest cool breathable attire that is not too tight or short. strapless is ok as long as it is not revealing. Basically If you wouldn't wear it to a classy afternoon event, don't wear it, if there are doubts about appropiateness DON"T wear it.
2. the pamphlet and the website that LSU has set up are great resources.... There is a day that PIM"s may do a lot of crafty stuff painting, glue using, etc, and that is the day that I would suggest wearing shorts or maybe a cute pair of capris, only because i remember sitting on the floor at one house, though most of the girls were nice enough to supply us with chairs.The other days,party one and party three (party 2 is the crafty one) cute sundresses or skirts are appropriate, maybe a sleek chic pant suit. professional You want to look NICE. it is not so much about what exactly you wear but what the overall impression is. Party four is a little dressier, omly because it is preference night and usually in the evening.
