Question Baseball players that are Greek?

I'm just curious to know who in the MLB, or even college baseball, is Greek! (The MLB players that you list can be past OR present .)

I only know of Orel Herschiser (sp?) - and even him, i forgot which GLO he belongs to!

Thank you !

Billy Williams, Illinois State U., played for the Cubs and is in the baseball hall of fame. Ferguson Jenkins, also ISU, and baseball hall of fame. There's a pic of Williams, but not Jenkins at the website. I think both are pictured in the paedagogus (AM Manual), but I don't have that with me. It's at school.

I understand how people who don't know him could get the wrong impression by that article, but I just wish people would remember to take everything in the media with a grain of salt. Actually, that *IS* a name of an actual sorority: http://www.trikappa.org/

"Tri Kappa is a unique philanthropic organization because it exists only within the boundaries of the state of Indiana, and thus, all of its contributions benefit the residents of Indiana. From these humble beginnings, Tri Kappa has thrived to 148 active chapters and 132 associate chapters with almost 11,000 members.

Each Tri Kappa chapter has special projects in its community for charity, culture, and education. Local chapters also support statewide projects."

However, I certainly wouldn't want to run around with 3 K's sprawled across my chest as of course, everyone would assume that meant Ku Klux Klan.

Exclamation

From Diamonds00 other posts, it can pretty much be assumed that he was making a reference to the KKK or Ku Klux Klan, not an actual Greek organization. Although there are Kappa Kappa Kappa orgs in existence, John isn't a member of them.

I agree, you do have to take everything with a grain of salt. I never saw that article and I don't even know what it said, but when I went to a Mets-Braves game in New York last summer it was amazing how much hostility there was against John Rocker. He threw a ball to someone in the stands, and they hurled it back at him! I don't agree with everything the guy says, in fact I think he is one of the many people that needs to learn when it's appropriate to keep his mouth shut, but to say he's a racist may be a bit extreme. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he live with Andruw Jones (or maybe it was another African American) at one time?

I'd never heard of Tri Kappa before, but I just have to say I'd hate to wear those letters... Imagine what people would assume!

SSS, you are LUCKY that you didn't see that article. If you did/or heard about it - boy oh boy would you be pissed off - and rightfully so!!! He said stuff about the subway in NY (THAT'S why there was such hostility when ATL came to play NY), and about homosexuals and tons of other $hit - stuff that wants to make you puke.

I don't know, I agree you have to take things with a grain of salt, but John Rocker, IMO, messed up TOO many times to get any sympathy from me.

I think John Rocker=Sicko. Period. Sorry DZrose!

You all prolly know that John Rocker is now a Cleveland Indian. He has caused so much trouble, that a Cleveland player (forgot who, maybe KSig RC can enlighten me) who, prior to Rocker coming to CLE, had wanted to sign a long-term deal with Cleveland. Once Rocker arrived, though, his teammate told his agent to call the deal with Cleveland off, b/c he couldn't stand Rocker at all.

He also got a lot of "attention" when ATL came to play SF. SF= very tolerant city, where there are not a shortage of homosexuals. I'm pretty sure that a couple of Giant fans threw stuff at him, too. There was definitely a loud stretch of "boos" and profanities thrown at him when he came onto the field.

He has caused so many people to hate him and be upset at him that when ATL came to town, there was always tons of security guards and police.

Thanks guys for the heads-up on the baseball players! Corbin, that's really cool that LXA has so many notable sports alums - for example, Larry Dierker (manager of the Houston astros), and also Larry Brown, the coach of the Sixers (of which I am a fan!!!!)!!

Hi SSS1365,

To answer your question, yes, Andruw Jones did live with John a few years ago.

dzrose -

I mainly talk with Mary Butler and visit FPD once or twice a year to speak to kids. I know a few FPD kids that will be coming to West Georgia this fall (my alma mater)! Did you know any Pikes at GCSU when you were there? I don't think any of the guys I knew from there are still around, but I think some of the guys from my chapter may still have some connections with the Pikes there.

I don't know any of the newer FPD graduates, since I've been out of HS since 1993. But I do know lots of Pikes from GCSU. I hung out with them and the Kappa Sigs quite a bit in school and still keep in touch with many of them. In fact, I was at a wedding this weekend with several Pike alums. The reception was at Scott Cameron's house in Macon. Do you know Jeff Hollingsworth, Steve Glawson, Clint Miller, CJ Hicks, Moose or any of that gang? They're about my age, some a little older.

It's so hard for me to place names and faces...most of the GCSU Pikes I knew were guys I met at Regional conferences and such...Clint and CJ ring a bell though..I'm sure I would know them if I saw them...it's funny that you meet people and can hang out with them without really knowing/remembering their names. I was at W.Ga. from 92-96 so I probably know some of those guys. I know a few GCSU Pikes came up to W.Ga. for a few parties and other events last year.

But please tell me you know Mrs. Mary Butler -- the FPD guidance counselor...she's such a sweet lady!! I'm pretty sure she's been at FPD for quite a while. Have you been by there lately? They have several new buildings that really look nice! Of course Stratford's new buildings look even nicer...no rivalry there, huh.
