I'm Confused
Okay, I recieved an email the other day that said that Delta Zeta's rituals were published on the internet by a new member that had her new member pin taken. It gave a link to the site (which I'm not going to advertise) and I checked it out. It turned out to be BS, but it made me curious. As a new member, we weren't allowed to know any part of a ritual, and were kept out of meetings untill all rituals were over and they had moved on to business. We also left early for the same reason. Is this just my chapter (Xi Nu)? If not, why are all these people claiming to know ritual, unless they severed as an initiate?

We didn't know any of the rituals when we were new members. We also had to leave meetings early when the initiates were participating in ritual. The most that was said to us about initiation was that it was a very special ceremony and that it would be one of our best experiences as a Delta Zeta. As a new member, we learned about the founders, badge etiquette, our colors, flower, the creed, and they told us the meaning of having the turtle as our mascot but we never learned about the ritual. My guess is that this girl was probably initiated and in order to get back at her sisters, she posted secrets on the internet...but who knows?????

No new member of Delta Zeta should know anything about ritual, other than what goes on in their pledging in ceremony. And usually the girls are so nervous and excited they don't remember much of that either. Sounds like this internet site is bogus --- someone with a problem with DZ or Greeks in general is just trying to start controversy. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Thanks guys!!! I know from reading posts that all of this "secret revealing" can lead to a lot of drama, so I thought it was safer to post under here. Anyways, it just caught me off guard because even though I am a JI right now, it would kill me if anyone got their hands on any of the information I had to work so hard for!!!
In the flame,

Thanks for using so much discretion, Missy! You did exactly right by not making a big issue out of it. If everyone would follow your example, those types of websites wouldn't get so much free publicity.

I agree with Honeybee--as a pledge in the Alpha Theta chapter at the University of Kentucky, I wasn't taught the rituals or meaning of our crest because it was only supposed to be revealed to us at initiation. This person is probably either misinformed or actually an initiate. Would one of you all e-mail me the web address? I want to see it for myself. Oh, and by the way--why is the turtle our mascot?? We were never told why. Thanks!

Hi ladies!
No new member is allowed to know any forms of Fraternity/Sorority Ritual. PERIOD. No Greek organization should be so irresponsible as to divulge Ritual information prior to Initiation.
I also wanted to put in my two cents about people on sites similar to the one in question. I think it's pretty hilarious that this "new member" tried to lie and post your "secrets". It's one thing to lie, but she couldn't even do it right....because fraternity and sorority members know that new members aren't allowed to know Ritual.
