group workout

I was wondering how do we manage to get the other girls to exercise/work out together without it being hazing? I was thinking we could go bike riding or roller skating.....

Make it a non-mandatory event. If you plan a fun event, I'm sure people will go. However, if you raise a stick and say "You MUST exercise with us!" then it's 1) not fun and 2) can be viewed as hazing.

If you want to make it mandatory, make it a recruitment event. We usually take the girls roller skating or bowling during the week.
Line dancing is also good exercise, but people don't always realize it. I mean it's a club atomsphere, so who wouldn't go?

We just always had an announcement at chapter like, "Each night at 8PM in the formal we will be doing the Pilates tape." When we still had this one dance major she would lead aerobics and stuff like that in the formal. It wasn't mandatory, but a lot of people showed up because you wouldn't have to leave the house to work out in a group setting (it was a really crappy winter).

A few weeks before formal, a bunch of the girls in my chapter got together to Tae Bo in the chapter room. It was SO MUCH FUN!!!!

It was something we just randomly decided to do and wasn't necessarily a planned event.

One of our sisters also created an obstacle course in the chapter room, and it was hilarious!

Yay for Tae Bo Tuesdays and Workout Wednesdays!!!

It's totally optional and we clear out the chapter room...pop in a Tae Bo video or a workout video and go to it.

Our University also offers a hip hop workout class...lot's of our girls go to that...each week they teach another dance routine...it's 3 days a week, so each day you add more to it. It's a blast!

What about a self defense class? Not only do you learn to protect yourself, but you can kick some major calories throwing punches and kicks. I know the Women's Center offers to teach classes once in a while. We sign up for them once a semester.

We have the sweaty squirrels club. we send out a sign up sheet that sisters write out when they are free- so you always know who is available when you are!

I've heard of some chapters having a sign up sheet where they can write how many times each week they have worked out, and at the end of the week, they give out healthy awards for the people who have gone X number of times. It's kind of like an insentive program to do something that a lot of people already do, plus, when you see sisters working out, some people can get inspired.

At my chapter, we had a group of girls who would do pilates in the TV room every other day, and since everyone knew, everyone could join in. Mostly though people just go through the house and get a whole group together to go to the Rec center (A lot of times I'd end up piling 7 girls or more into my truck!) Going in a big group helps. There's nothing saying you have to work out together, but it helps to go with other people.

I know at my house "8 minute abs" is huge (and other various work out videos, but this one especially). I remember last semester when we were waiting between serenades from fraternities (because they come at will from 8pm-12am) we kept popping in the 8 minute ab video (and of course starting/stopping/starting/stopping when the men showed up to serenade us ). It was hilarious to see because it was just a ton of kappa girls laying in our family room all doing crunches!
