St. Louis?
I'll be there starting Tuesday for a few days for the Sigma Nu National Convention -- the 61st Grand Chapter.
At our last convention in Toronto, we ended up with a lot of time on our hands during the evenings. We'll be staying and holding the convention at the Hyatt Regency at Grand Central Station. What is there to do around there? Any recommendations?

Hit Central West End, Laclede's Landing, The Loop, or Wesport. I recommend Westport because it is the safest. All three areas have a variety of bars and clubs. The Loop is a more artsy area, if you're into that kind of environment. However, if you're staying downtown Central West End and Laclede's landing is a lot closer than Westport, which is in a town called "Maryland Heights".

The manager of that hotel is definitely making his bonus this year.

Westport is waaaay more trouble to get to from downtown than it's worth, imho, depending on your party style.
Union Station (not Grand Central ) is a shopping mall/center with the hotel and restaurants and such attached to it. On one end is a MetroLink station (Metro is our moderately useful transit system). From there, you can easily get to Laclede's Landing (just next to the river), which is a historic district with lots of bars and clubs and such.
That option saves you driving or getting cabs (it's like $1.50 to ride metro, as opposed to trying to find a cab in our cab-draught city, then paying $40 to go 6 blocks)
If you feel like going off the Metro route, you can get to the Central West End (about 10 minutes from Union Station, safe, trendy/large gay population, nice coffeeshops), Washington Avenue (about 5 minutes from Union Station, not as safe, lots of clubs and bars), the loop (About 15 minutes from Union Station, hip shops, bars, and people watching, reasonably safe), or , yes, Westport (about 35-40 minutes from Union Station, yuppie, chain restaurants, comedy club, etc, very safe, very white).
Union Station
The Loop
Westport Plaza
Central West End
Wash Ave
Laclede's Landing

Also, you could check out Soulard and a Cardinals game (then party at Paddios afterward) if they are in town when you are here ... they are back on a winning streak. Soulard is south of downtown and east of Interstate 55 - corners and corners of neighborhood bars including McGurks (a cool Irish pub), the A-B brewery free tours, outdoor restaurants and Gus' Pretzel Shop. It's a small cab ride away from downtown. South Grand is also a cool little area if you are into eclectic shops and international food - Pho Grand has awesome Vietnamese and Cafe Natasha has amazing Persian food. The City Musuem on Washington Ave. is open late on weekends - also fun. If anyone has any other questions, feel free to PM me.
Do I see the possiblity of a GC gathering in the Lou' coming up??
-edited to correct the wrong spelling of pretzal - its been a long week-

I might be in the Lou this weekend (24-26), too. I just found an excellent last-minute deal between Laguardia and STL...less than what I spend on partying in the city on the weekend. I feel like I need to see my man before he moves back here for the fall.
I'm partial to the Loop and CWE. Of course, you and your bros will probably have a good time bar-hopping. McGurks and O'Connell's are really good Irish pubs, with the latter not too far from Busch Stadium.

Our soccer convention was in St. Louis last year, and my recommendation is to get your kicks on Route 66 - at Ted Drewe's Frozen Custard!!
Ted Drewe's!
This is some of the VERY best ice cream I've ever had in my life - it's truly unbelievable until you've had it!

Alright, we're having a Lou gathering.
We have at least 3 GCers already in the STL area.
Two are visiting 7/24-26.
I don't know how long ktsnake is staying and if he even wants to do this.
This alone is enough to have a gathering.
Greekgrrl and Alphachiohmy, where would you guys like to have it? I don't care, as long as it isn't in Laclede's Landing or Wash ave., unless daytime.
What times are you guys available?

Y'all should stop by the Sigma Nu National Convention.
We could use some tour guides.

As much as I despise the Landing at times, we could do dinner some night at Morgan Street next week- 5 or 6ish early and still daytime - and sit outside. They are a microbrewery/restaurant turned night spot, sports bar, beer garden, dance floor. I am up for any day.

Go visit Columbia!!! It's only and hour and a half away, and I always manage to have a lot of fun here.
But then again that's b/c I like to binge drink and kiss fraternity boys...so if that's not your style then I don't think you'd have fun here.
I can't tell you much about STL though, sorry.
