Have you heard of Pacific Islands Club? They are a smaller chain, but work much like a Club Med. I worked at PIC right after college and loved it. Things may have changed, but CM doesn't give you much time off - like you may work 3 months without a day off. Also, you are usually hired to do one job (like lifeguard) and that's all you do for 3 mo. PIC rotates throughout the day, so you may be at the beach for a few hours, at the tennis courts, at the pool, etc.

Best of luck you! (I didn't mean to diminish Club Med, just wanted to throw out another option in case you hadn't heard of PIC)

This isn't about employment but...

...my husband and I went to Club Med Turkoise for our honeymoon! It was wonderful! The staff was awesome - hubby met one of the workers on the first day and they had a sports-rivalry thing going on all week, all in good fun of course! There was a totally hot bartender there too...all the girls (married and single) swooned over him the entire time.

Congrats

I looked at the web site it looks fun . . I stayed at a club med once . . .

The only thing I didn't like is that you have to share a room . . I wouldn't want to.

fuck club med
friday they confirmed a position to me...asked me if i would be able to fly out to flordia on july 3rd. they said that they just needed to finish my background check and reference check and it would be finalized... today i get a message telling me that they filled the position that was confirmed to me with someone internal, and that my background chack and reference check went through fine so if they have something coming up in the future they would let me know.
fuck that. you dont tell someone you are confirming a job on the opposite side of the country and give them a move date, then tell them oh i am sorry, just kidding. as of right now i am in san diego. but my car, and 80% of my shit is 8 hours away in northern california at my parents house. this weekend was the only time for me to get it all moved home. so now i am fucked out of a job, almost fucked out of my 3 part time jobs here in sd because i had to give them 1 weeks notice instead of 2 and now i am like just kidding i am staying, i dont have my car to get myself anywhere, i dont have any of my shit.... like if i wanted to cook myself chicken i fucking cant because my gad damn geroge forman is at hime 8 fucking hours away. what the fuck? i hate club med! i will never work for them, and i hope that kari bitch calls me back so i can tell her to fuck off. AHHH!!! why does bad shit constantly keep happening to me? and dont tell me that something good will come along, that got played out the last time.

That really sucks.

I think you should be able to sue for any out of pocket expenses incurred by you, over their incompetence in handling it all. Don't know if you can/likelihood of success; perhaps another GC'er can tell you that.

Or you could put it down to experience if you preferred. Either way, it sucks.

Wow. It's amazing how we're basically expected to be perfect people on our background checks and when they check our references. Yet, the very same HR people that expect all this can be such F-ups.

Maybe you had an early indication on what working there would have been like and this display of incompetance just saved your ass from a few years or months of misery.

If they were treating you like this during the interview/hiring process, it's probably best you didn't end up working there. Imagine how you may have been treated as an employee.

Anyways, sorry that you went through all that with them; that really is a showing of incompetence on their part.
