What are some issues that commonly lead to a conversation getting heated? And maybe sometimes the moving of furniture?

Someone claims that certain disorders or conditions doesn't exist.
Someone denies a problem that needs to be addressed.
Certain matters of race.
Harsh sarcasm.

Strongly held opinions and an inability to discuss them civilly.
Of course, there is always a time and place where harsh sarcasm, derisive comments (in my opinion) are necessary. Those times are rare though.

I think we do need debates - there have been some great debates on here, and I'm sure people have learned from the opposing sides in such matters.
Like anything else, it can get out of hand...but debate is a good thing.

Agreed. I think that most heated debates arise from one of these issues in one way or another.
