someone asked me this and i didnt know the answer. do sororities read the potential new memebers' rush application? i heard the some schools dont and others do. what is the official answer?

I believe what you wrote *is* the official answer. Some schools give a copy to each sorority, some don't. I pressed for one of the schools I volunteer for to get them next year because Panhel didn't know GPAs and always got the pnm's year wrong. But this is the first year we'll have seen them since I was in college. It really depends on the school.

I know at my school that the Panhellenic Council lets the chapters see the applications (or, at least they did when I was there from 1998-2002). We got copies of them. That's the way we all had to figure out who are legacies are (there's a spot for it on the rush sheet)--and it's a good way to see who's family has a greek history. Since I cannot speak for every chapter at my school and only for my own (in vague terms), I know that not every member of my chapter got to see the actual application, but various information from those applications was given to members so that they could know the girls before they walked in the door.

At my school we had about 300 women at the start of each rush. We got list with GPAs and also a picture of each girl. We didn't get the major info from the sheets, though. We had to get as much info from them as we could 1st round, and we'd make our own info cards on them. But the fact that we got a picture was fabulous! Such a great memory jogger!

When we got recs on PNMs we always read those.

At Stetson they give each sorority a copy and then in ZTA, we each got a copy. It's nice to have something to reference to.

As the outgoing recruitment coordinator for my school, for right now all the groups get is legacy information and this year we started doing a face book.

Next year (assuming my suggestions are taken) the groups should get GPAs and activity information. It's hard b/c I know at my school groups do their voting and point systems completely different and so one group may weigh heavily on outside info (i.e. stuff off the application) whereas another goes off of meeting the PNM and talking to her.

I also think it depends on how organized your recruitment is, at least I know that's how it is for us. The more support, the easier to give more info.

I think its probably good if you don't get all of the info...

Then during recruitment you'll be able to make a real decision without being biased by what the info says...

I don't think its fair for someone to go through rush with everyone already having a negative or positive opinion about them before they even get to show them their personality and what they're like.

Sadly enough though (for me), grades do show a good deal about the person...

all of the sororities at my school get a copy of each PNM's application, which usually totals around 400...it just has basic info about high school activities, interests, GPA, hometown, year and legacy info...we haven't really found a good way to organize all of the info computer-wise, anybody have suggestions?

All the sororities read the PNM's applications and pull them after each round so they know who's who when it's time to discuss.

I know that at all the big Florida schools the sororities receive a copy of the PNM's application. The members will review these applications during work week to find out who is going through recruitment.

It varies from school to school, like said in this thread. While we may not read the application that you've hand-filled out, we will see some of the information on it. Like other posters have said, what's the point?

I do know of one girl who screwed herself over by lying on a rush app - she neglected to mention that while she was a sophomore she had been in school for several years beforehand at another school - it turns out that an XY sister at school A had a biological sister who was an XY at school B. It wasn't the best situation for anyone involved.

they were quite important at my school. with 1500 or so girls going through recruitment we needed something to refer too. i always remember there being multiple binders in our suites with the information. i always felt bad for the recruitment team for when they had to go through and stick all of those in the binder sheet protector things. they were fun to pore through.

Applications are quite important at EKU as well. Especially for the class ranking, family members who are greek, hometown(they even print it on the PNM's name tag), and GPA.

For my particular chapter they are looked at extensively for leadership, service, high GPA's, honors, and activities.

If a recommendation comes in for a PNM containing a picture, every member is required to view that picture with that PNM's name before the rush parties begin each day which is to the advantage of the PNM as well as the members(hence why I now have stated in the recommendations thread, if you dont provide me with a picture, I will not send in your reference/letter of information to the chapter at the school you are rushing).

When I was in college, we received a copy of each PNM's recruitment application (with photocopied picture) which allowed us to try and match up a PNM with a sister who wanted to get to know the woman a little better. Maybe they both loved gymnastics or something, or they both came from the same state (I seriously think that may be the reason when I went through recruitment I was paired with the woman I was on the first day

), which allowed for the conversations to be more "natural" and getting to know one another, rather than trying to find something that the two of you could talk about by throwing out random topics.

For the most part, Greeks do not just take a pig in a poke.

Looking good is not a Rec for being rushed. Grades are an important part along with social,and other functions.

Joining and being accepted by a Greek Organization is not a beauty contest, one must be well rounded as an individual and continue to be.
