Kenny Chesney
Hey guys I just bought the new Kenny Chesney cd last night "when the sun goes down" and on track #7 (a keg in the closet) he mentioned Lambda Chi and I thought it was cool.. I was driving and as soon as I heard it I called my best friend who is a Lambda Chi and told him about it.. I think he just thinks I am dorky but it was neat.. Just thought I would let you guys know that if you want to give it a listen. He also talks about Lambda Chi in the insert of the CD.

Well he talks about Lamba Chi in the insert of the CD which was good. And in the song the line is "This old guitar taught me how to score, right there on that Lambda Chi porch"
I am not sure if you consider that good or not but I thought it was neat because I have never heard him mention it in a song before.

Hey Chipster, do you think he would sit and plunk a few with Doc, Jono and Mouse and maybe some of my guys Rams, Shawn, Phil, Roy Boy and make some music!
What a hoot that would be!

Is Chesney an initiated brother? I though I saw another thread or maybe in the C&C that he was an associate member, but it isn't clear that he went through Ritual....
Just curious.

Yeah, Again, he is indeed a fully initiated member of the bond.
He was initiated into Iota Omicron Zeta (East Tennessee State University) in Johnson City, TN (About 75 miles NE of Knoxville and 45 miles west of Asheville, NC). He was ititiated about 1990 and I'll get his zeta number for ya'll. He never graduated ETSU, and left to make his mark in Nashville circa 1992. ETSU has since given him an honorary degree and he now does commercials for ETSU in the Johnson City area.
I have a friend who was a brother there at about the same time and Brother Chesney was his Kappa. Apparently the brothers also gave him much grief about his music, lol.

Brother Chesney will be coming to Grand Rapids on April 1st to do a concert at Van Andel Arena. Several of the guys from Delta Theta Zeta at Grand Valley State are planning on going, and if any of you would like to come up for it, you'd be more than welcome. Tickets went on sale today, and we'll probably buy ours sometime next week. Let me know if you or any of your guys are interested!

Well, HQ added him to the website under "Famous Alumni" right next to John Tesh within the past few days, so I'm gonna assume that he's in good standing!

It is all good as far as I know. He left ETSU and the chapter to try his had at a music career in Nashville. Nashville and Johnson City are about 4 hours apart, so it would have been impossible for him to commute.
Also, its Lambda Chi HQ - even if it wasnt ok, they'd find a way to make it ok. Being the youngest of the big GLO's we have like 2 famous bothers (in pop culture) when other GLO'S have liek 10. Seriously, I'd never play the John Tesh card during recruitment when I was playing the "we have famous alumni too" game. Tesch gets you no street credibility. Sorry, but i'td be like claiming Yanni or something. Same with brother Yurich. Greeks of today would be like "Who is Spencer and why was he for hire?" The only two alums most of the current undergrads have heard of were Truman and Ben Bratt. Paul Harvey? Coem on, seriously. So I am real sure the gf would FIND a way to ride some of his celebrity.

lol. I'll see that the message is passed along, lol.
Also, the song is apparently the talk of 8741 Founders Road this week. While they dont condone kegs, privately they will tell you that they think its a pretty cool song.

Sometimes, ANY publicity is GOOD publicity, right? Since this isn't a news story about something stupid being done, it at least gets our name out in a "positive" manner...
It's better than Paul Harvey's occassional references to LXA on his show...though I do enjoy hearing him talk about fraternity life in general - he does it all too infrequently...
...and way better than anything John Tesh could do for us (like you or someone else said, it's like having Yanni endorse you....Yanni=YAWNI)...
