FRATERNITY RECEIVES MAJOR ACKNOWLEDGMENTS AT CONFERENCE
Philadelphia, PA, April 2004-Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was well recognized for its longstanding participation at the recent North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) annual meeting in Alexandria, Virginia. During the conference, which included visitations of elected officials on Capitol Hill, Rhen Bass, a longtime member of the fraternity who has served in many leadership roles, received the NIC's
Award of Distinction for Alumni Members. Bass, a CPA, has lead Kappas Chapter Advisors on a national basis and is currently the Chairman of its Financial Records and Advisory Team (FRAT). Under his leadership of this committee, the fraternity has already seen substantial gains in its investment portfolio and a streamlining of its overall operational expenses.
Additionally, Richard Lee Snow, the fraternity's Executive Director/COO,
was unanimously elected to the NIC's Board of Directors. In doing so, he becomes the second African-American to serve in this capacity. Hiliary H. Holloway, a past Grand Polemarch (national president) and the only African-American to serve as president of the NIC, preceded him.
Snow had served on the programs committee for the organization and has been a vocal spokesperson for those issues affecting minority members.
As a member of the Board of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc., the organization representing the nine (9) Black Greek-Lettered Organizations, he has served as the liaison to the NIC.
The NIC represents 66 national/international fraternities in the U.S. and Canada totaling nearly 8 million members. The recognition of Bass and election of Snow strengthens the NIC's position of and commitment to inclusion of diversity amongst its ranks.
