Do/did you smoke weed? That can cause absentmindedness in people who normally are not.

I do stuff like that all the time, but that's because I'm a flake and always have been.

This may sound stupid, but are you drinking enough water? Some of the early symptoms of dehydration are forgetfulness, problems with math problems etc. So you might want to think about that, especially if it's only happened fairly recently.

Just a thought

I've been like that since I was 6--so, I can't really blame it on the pot.

hahahahaa I know what you mean, AXiD670... I am such an airhead sometimes that I've actually parked, gotten out of my car and walked to my apartment and been like, "Where are my keys?" before I realized that not only were they still in the car, but they were in the ignition with the car running.

My most recent brain fart is that I can't seem to remember my PIN number to my check card.... and I use this thing practically every other day.

I'm 25 and I have this problem. I always assumed it was because I probably don't get enough protein. But you aren't alone. I forget names all the time, I have problems with my pin numbers, etc. The other day I totally freaked out at work because we were letting some books go out onto the floor before we were allowed to sell them (a lot of new releases can't be sold before a specific date, think Harry Potter), and it was like 3 days after the strict on sale date. I felt like a total idiot around my boss after that.

You read my mind! Dehydration, lack of sleep, too little fat in your diet, hormonal probs and blood sugar problems can all cause you to be flaky. I went thru a very flaky time and then I found out I had a thyroid imbalance. Maybe try taking better care of yourself and if it still isn't better go see a doctor.

I thought I was the only one having a "mental meltdown" but I just thought my brain cells were dying off due to old age (LOL) I tried the whole weekend to memorize 2 and a half pages, which is usually no problem. I couldn't make it stick!! It was very depressing and maddening. Guess I'll try the more sleep and more water routine and see if that helps.

I think it's probably sleep... because... although I know it feels like it (I'm *almost* there myself) 25 IS NOT OLD !!!!!!!!!!!!! you sound stressed out too when you have other stuff on your mind you can get all mixed up with routine things. I think you need to do something relaxing and get some more sleep. I just read a study that missing even 2 hours of sleep effects you as much as having 2 alcholic drinks in your system.

Well, I've been working in geriatrics for more years than I care to mention, and I'm convinced that Alzheimer's is contagious!!

On the positive side, just consider this: ten years ago, you had a telephone number for home. Then you added one for school, for work, your cellphone, your various significant others' cellphones/work/school/home phones, your familys' cellphones/work/school/home phones.

We have so much more to memorize than they had 50 years ago.

I had a memory lapse so bad a few weeks ago that it scared me.

We had our Beautillion in late April. My chapter has 116 financial Brothers, and about 40 come to meetings every month. There is this one older Brother who comes to every meeting and a lot of committee meetings. I have emailed the brother a few times, talked to him on the phone, and always have a conversation every time I see him.

I could not remember his name to save my life. I had to ask somebody near me what it was. I felt so ashamed....but it was GONE....I couldn't remember it at all. NOW I haven't forgotten it again.

I guess maybe it was physical....lack of water or protein, perhaps...I hadn't really eaten all day.

My flakiness isn't so much from lack of sleep or anything as it is from my medications!!! Prednisone can really make you a total space case if your dosage is high enough, and my 40mg a day is pretty high. I'll be sitting in a restaurant right across the table from my mom and having a conversation about my wedding (which I am a total bridezilla about- yes, it's back on and things are working out!), and then go "huh?" like nothing happened. I do it all the time. I don't hear people, I space out constantly, and I can't remember where I'm driving to- ever.

Of course I'm not as bad as Mr. Bunny, who almost always forgets to put deodorant on in the morning and has to run back into the house. I'm sending one of my bridesmaids to his room the morning of the wedding with a post-it that says "put on deodorant...and socks."

No, age doesnt have anything to do with anything.

I am not absent minded, I just cannot remember things!

How many numbers do you have to remember? Home, work, friends, Greek Orgaization.

I still remember my childhood home phone number. Well that was the only thing I had to remember beside the home address!

Must be why they came up with 911 for emergency!

Actually it's 64 oz. but you can get water from other sources. Veggies, juices, etc. If you're ever thirsty it's sign you're already dehydrated. Avoiding caffeine helps too, but like I'm going to do that!
