Ok, where yall at . . . .
Ok, Sorors, where yall at?? I'm not focused at work today, so I'm trying to play office hooky, in the office! I am trying to keep my mind off of today's pending (read: rumored) layoffs. I mean, really, how do they expect us to be focused on work when we have no idea if we will be employed come 5:00??
So, would anyone like to have a cup of tea with me today?

Well, it was not a rumor. They laid off MANY people today. Blessfully (Luck had nothing to do with this, I know God when I see Him), Ideal08 did not get laid off! But it was still horrible to see that. On the one hand, you feel bad at others' misfortunes, but on the other hand, you feel happy that it wasn't you. Bittersweet. I have NEVER witnessed anything like that before. It was a mess.

Well, gotta bring this back to the top.
It turns out... Ideal08 WILL be laid off. Next Friday is my last day. I have, really, no idea what to do. I mean, I am the QUEEN of job searches and whatnot. But I don't know what I'm SUPPOSED to do. So I'm lost and don't really know where to begin. I want to move, but is there time? Will I have the money to do so if my next job won't pay for relocation costs? I know it will all work out, but I also know that I have a part in that. And I don't know where to start. ARGH!! So annoying!!! I knew it was time for me to leave this job, but I guess I wasn't moving fast enough. I wonder what God has planned?
Give me you advice, Sorors, SF's, Bruhs, BF's, anyone, anyone, Beuler, Beuler? lol
Let me help you help me, lol. My BA is in Spanish. I can still speak, though I'm not fluent. If I started talking, though, I'd give it about 3 weeks, and my fluency should be back. I can read it, write it, speak it, interpret it, and translate it.
I work in Telecom now. Background is provisioning and circuit routing. I have experience in DS0, DS1, and DS3 level circuits.
I also have a pretty strong non-profit background. I worked for AmeriCorps for almost a year.
Can you say MAKING THE NET WORK?
Ok, so what yall think? What do I want to do? I don't know. I like Telecom, I'd like to stick with it, I guess. I just want to get to where God wants me so I can stop going through this.
That's all. Any ideas?

Ideal,
Stay prayerful and keep the faith. Remember everything happens for a reason. I am here if and when you need me. You are more than welcome to come to my hometown for a week or so and do some job searching here. I will keep my eyes and ears open for you. Max needs somebody to play with!!!!LOL

Anyway, Ideal (I crack up calling you that), remember on our countless hours of road tripping you said you would like to get into advertising. Here is your chance. THE SKY IS THE LIMIT!!!
I can contact my sands and see if she is still in advertising.

I've done this. However, I think it takes more than that. God may speak to me through one of you. Listening to God (to me) doesn't mean praying and then sitting and waiting. There is action required. I've said my prayers. And I know that God will handle this. But I also know that God brings people into your life for a reason. Some of you may be some of those people. Feel me? While I agree with you, I also think that I need to network. I also feel like I've been still for too long, and maybe He has already told me something, and I missed it.

Well, I can tell you definitely not to go back into Telecom! I work for Verizon (former Bell Atlantic and GTE) in engineering and we just received word that we will be downsizing too. Between Cisco, Lucent and the former RBOC companies, there is nothing moving forward here; even our installation vendors are laying off.
What company are you being downsized from (you can email me privately if you want). I would suggest concentrating on your other skills and looking to other industries.

Soror,
You know what I told you to do as a means of a job for the "meantime", if things aren't going as planned in the next few weeks.
If not, I know you will are going to find something more worth your while!

Ideal you can teach until you find something else. I usually wouldn't advise that, because everyone does not have the personality to do so. But you seem very intelligent, positive and caring- something our children need. There is a shortage of teachers. God Bless You!!
