I think people's facination with Dracula and vampires is sexual in nature.

I saw it. It was a lot of fun. LOTS. Special effects may have gotten a little carried away at the end . . but we have come to expect that now.
Sure, there is something really sexy about the way Dracula behaves and he was qute the ladies man.

A friend of mine never wanted a canopy bed because she said Dracula only bit women in canopy beds!! LOL
To answer the question, the movie looks interesting. Yeah, I would see it.

Have you read the original, justamon -- Bram Stoker's Dracula? I promise it will only reinforce your opinion. Let's just say some major metaphor and not-so-subtle sublimation going on.
Then there' Ann Rice....

Very true. Those were some hott books.
I thought Van Helsing was super cheesy. Special effects were pretty good, but the vampires' (all 4 of them) acting was AWFUL. Semi-naked Hugh Jackman made it worthwhile though. He's dreamy.

Van Helsing
I saw it.
I thought it was good. It'd make a good date movie, y'know?
Kate Beckinsale positively smouldered in it; I don't think I'd seen her in anything before.
The way the storylines and different 'monsters' were woven in together was fairly skilful.
Realistically it seems to be vaguely set in the 17-1800s but you see a projector displaying a film of that lil' place in the Carpathian mountains early in the film. It isn't meant to educate, but to delight.
The acting...is somewhat hammy at times, yes. But not to the point of cringe-inducing by any means.
Dracula by Bram Stoker was a love story in some respects. Naturally, on celluloid this transmigrates into an overt sexual undertone.
Think high bodices & heaving bosoms and you'll have a pretty good idea.
It's entertaining enough and worth going along to see.

I know, they really were weren't they? And Kate Beckinsdale looked gorgeous although I can't figure out how she did all those stunts wearing that tight corsett! lol
Dracula was good looking, but I thought his ponytail was too girly looking.
Oh, and Hugh Jackman has singlehandedly made floppy hats dayum sexy!

Totally worth the $9 I paid to see it...though I don't know why people bring their babies to 10:10pm movies on a saturday night...esp. to a movie we all know is going to be darned loud! Get a sitter darn it people!
Kate Beckinsale looked good...Decadence you've not seen Underworld? That was all vampire-y and stuff too..she was in that and she's also been in Pearl Harbor (gag!), Serendipity and Brokedown Palace ( a not so great movie, but hey, it was on HBO and I got sucked in).
Hugh is hot.
I liked the guy who played Frankenstein, but whenever I see Frankenstein movies it always reminds me of Young Frankenstein with Gene Wilder and the dance scene, "Putting on the Ritz!"

I saw Van Helsing last night... I really enjoyed it! Definately good effects and a strong plotline... I love how it was in line with the 30s horror flicks, definately one of the best lost genres of all time. And I hope there's a sequel! There were definately some loose ends.
