Try to do some things to let the girls see you doing community work. Invite them to come help out w/ your philanthropy. If you're holding a really cool program, turn it into a rush event by inviting potential members to come too.
I know my chapter assists w/ Special Olympics and we turned our Skate-A-Thon into an informal rush event and invited interested girls to come hang out.
Card parties, pool/spade tournaments, are great ways of getting to know sisters. Skate parties are cool too.
Hope I helped!

Thanks for the help JocelynC.
I was also wondering if anyone could give me like samples of a Rush Week, like what events each day. I am trying to sort out all this stuff over the summer so it can be planned before we get back.
Also, I spoke to a recruitment chair/dop/rush chair (whatever you want to call her) and she thinks a rush week would be a good idea. I'm so excited.

Here's an example:
*Monday: Informational -Iced Tea (informal)
Give the girls a rundown of the week, handout necessary paperwork, etc. Explain requirements, etc. Mingle!
*Tuesday: Card Party/Pool Tournament
*Wednesday: Service Day
Here you can have cool community service project for girls to get to know you guys.
*Thursday: ZLPsi Spa Day (can be invite only)
You can get cheap spa day kits from Target, and have a night of papmering while girls get to meet you guys.
*Friday: Dressy Dessert Night-INVITE ONLY
You can make this one invite only if you want. Based on rush apps. or whatever methods you use, you can select the girls you want to see back on this night.
You may also want to go into more detail about pledging, expectations, fees, etc.
*Saturday: Zeta Day-INVITE ONLY
Your invited girls can be interviewed on this special night. You guys can have a slide show or everyone can bring in 3 Zeta items of theirs (hoodie, picture, jacket) and explain it's significance to them.
*Sunday: Bid/Pledge Night
You let the girls know whether they've been selected as pledges or not. For the ones you chose you can do some thing fun like a pledge movie night or something.
Also since it's rush week, make sure all of the girls know that at the end of the week, invites will be extended, and give deadlines for grades, paperwork, etc.
You can also make a certain # of the open events mandatory if they are to be considered, and remind the rushees to get to know as many actives as they can.
You should remind them that the Fri.,Sat., and Sun. events are by invite only.
Well, I had too much fun w/ this! Hope I helped.

We have the same situation with my school, we don't do formal rush so be have a bit of a problem doing events. My chapter decided to do a "celebrate Alpha Sigma Tau" week which is basically a lot like formal rush except since it isnt, we can invite other clubs to the events.
We're doing a family weekend BBQ, movie theme night, t.v shows another night, philanthropy with invite to other clubs, and mocktails. Oh I think we have a road clean up somewhere as well.
I know its hard, I'm the recruitment director next semester so I've got my work cut out for me, but I'd love to give you some ideas if need be.

Thanks Samantha for your input. I have to add that there will be no events on friday night because we are adventist and we won't have any until Saturday night. How do you think we could work around this? Also, since it is a christian school and we want to have a well rounded program, do you think we should have something on friday night?

hmm...since you can't do anything friday night, I'd sugest something either friday afternoon (like tv shows or a nifty movie) or saturday morning/afternoon like a philanthropy event. OH OH we did a karaoke night, so you could do something like that...cept during the day/afternoon. Making fools of yourself is always fun, if anything you'll have a good time.
Otherwise I'd say something like a book discussion/tea, or an academic speaker type deal, those are more rounded.
Basically I'd sit down and decide what aspects of your sorority you think that the most important and should be shown, then promote those. After all, recruitment is basically selling your sorority (wow that sounds bad).

ok i just have a cute event to post.
I didn't go to this event this semester but the girls thru a 'bring your own banana" night. basically everyone brought a banana for making banana splits with all the trimmings. however the whole night was based on the theme. the girls had a contest. they broke into groups, they were given a banana, pipe cleaners, pom poms, googly eyes, fabric scraps and other crafty things to "dress up" their banana. I have pics, they were so cute. I think if you want to show off your personalities, do something goofy like that.
