First thing you did as an AKA...

The first major thing I did as an AKA was attend the SAR conference in Atlanta a week after crossing over in '95. It was simply amazing. I was in awe of my sorors and the way AKA handled business.
There are so many interesting things I've done as an AKA, I don't know where to begin. I guess I'll share just a few from my undergrad days including the mentor program, after-school tutoring, the annual "Showtime at the Apollo", the annual Black History Carnival, the Little Miss AKA pageant, the road trips, and yes, our step shows were always all that.

The first MAJOR thing that happened after becoming a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha was the North Atlantic Regional Conference. It was wonderful to see so many sorors from many different states all working together. It was wonderful to see Soror C. Edith Booker in action as well as Supreme Basileus Norma S. White.

The first thing I did AFTER becoming an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman was to attend The South Atlantic Regional Conference(I think we left 2 days after becoming official)
But I think the first MAJOR thing I did was turn to my Mom(who is also a soror) and recieve a hug from her. This meant soooo much to me!
As AKAtude said we had A LOT of Community Service activities...but I think I enjoyed the Homecoming Step Show the best. 1st because we raise a lot of money for scholarships and second because it was the first time I got to put on my pink and green jersey and step with my sorors!
much ivy luv!

I have to agree with Soror Kiara about hitting the greek stores. But, the most interesting thus far (considering I'm a neo) was when me and three of my line sisters performed a skit at the senior brunch. It was so last minute and I was so nervous.

The real work begins AFTER you cross...and that's exactly what we did. My line started working For Alpha Kappa Alpha, and in BEHALF of Alpha Kappa Alpha as soon as we crossed!! We went to a local childrens' shelter where our chapter volunteers regularly. "Being of service" is what we came to do!!!
Skee Wee!!

First thing I did: I was sooooo bewildered that my line and I crossed that I was too afraid to ask my father if I could add this "I love AKA" sticker on my car...
The second, run into this store to get my line crossing jacket with all my line names...

Well as soon as we were "official" after our reception I went home and went to sleep for almost 10 hours!!!! I think that the first thing I did that really made me feel like an AKA was attend our first business meeting. Seeing how the business of AKA was handled upclose and personal really made me feel like a soror!

We had our chapter meeting about a week after we came into the organization. Watching how my seasoned sorors handled things made me feel like an AKA. That feeling has and will continue to grow, with projects, the upcoming regional, et al.
