Talking He's Back!

This is very off topic but if there are any Sf's/Members enjoy the music of Prince I wanted to know if all this business about him going back to being just "Prince" is true. A friend told me about it but I was wondering if anyone heard the same thing.

It may seem small to non-fans, but to people like me it's pretty big! I got my screen name from one of his songs.

Yes, it's true, O-+> (whatever that may be ) is going back to being plain ol' freaky PRINCE. I heard an interview clip on the radio this morning. He said he used the symbol out of anger, and now that he doesn't "feel like punching someone" he has come to appreciate being addressed by his full given name (Prince Rogers Nelson).

I really don't care what he calls himself as long as he keeps making music. His newest CD ("Rave unto the Joy Fantastic") was MUCH better than the mess he had been releasing over the last few years. Of course, I still have all of those not-so-good CDs because I felt the need to continue my trend of owning everything the man makes including a tape copy of the unreleased version of the "Black" album.
Much love to all!

Talking

I heard on the radio today that he had to change his name when he left Time Warner (his record label). He was supposedly still under contract with them but he brok e the contract and refused to produce music for them. Under that contract Warner owned the name "Prince". Now, his contract with them is up and he can legally take his name back. This sisterfriend is happy to see him back too! I'm a big Prince fan.

I read it in the newspaper yesterday morning. It is indeed true. I never stopped calling him Prince. The article mentioned the name change stemmed from his contract dispute with Time Warner. Remember when he scrawled "slave" on the side of his face at one time? Prince stated in the article that he now has his freedom since he is no longer under that contract.

Funny story about the Artist Now Known as Prince Again (TANKAPA)....I lived in Minneapolis in the late 80s/early 90s. I was at a nightclub one night with some friends and we saw Prince sitting in a corner with his big body guards. People were pretty much leaving him alone, but one of my friends decided to go and try to meet him. She went over, talked to the body guards, they told he r he did not want to be disturbed, etc. She kept peeking around the guards asking him questions, etc. And he would not answer her. He just looked at her with this silly little half smile on his face (I'm sure you've seen the "Prince smile" before.) Anyway, finally she said "Com'on...say SOMETHING to me and I'll leave you alone!!" He then said, in a very soft voice "something" and burst out laughing!!! We were all cracking up! As soon as it happened he turned beet red. It was cute.

Smile

That's pretty funny Eclipse. My bestfriend (who is an even bigger fan than me) has a cousin who lives in Minneapolis. They once told me a crazy story that involved Prince and the NPG getting on a public bus, but I won't even tell it because it's too crazy to be true!! Even though the man is crazy, I will be a fan no matter what his name is. Thanks to all the ladies that responded!

"If I gave you diamonds and PEARLS, would you be a happy boy or a girl?" ~Prince

Lil' John Style

WHATTTTT????

I'm gonna be at work! My friend went to the concert about a week or so ago, I'm mad I missed it. He said that he was disappointed because he didn't sing some of his more popular old songs.

*running to learn how to work the VCR*

I went to Prince's concert last night here in Tampa and it was Posolutely Fantabulous!! He did most of his old music, most of the hits and he did a little of his new music too. Everyone received a copy of his new cd "Musicology" at the door. This concert was so awesome. I can't describe it, it was wonderful. I am thinking about going to see him again in another city. The new cd is pretty good, btw.

Did anyone watch last night?

Host for MTV and VH1 telecast: Sway
Host for BET: Journalist Nelson George (I think)

Question: If they all are Viacom subsidiaries, why 2 different hosts?

I'm not sure about the two different hosts, but the BET host was Steven Jones, the Director of Programming for BET.

Okay. That's why I said "I think". I knew the dude looked familiar. There were different hosts. I kept flipping back and forth (vh1, mtv, bet), because I had missed a few scenes. By flipping, I was able to catch up.

I just saw Prince this past Friday and it was WONDERFUL! I'm too young to really remember his "nasty" days, so I'm coming at it from a different viewpoint. He's a Jehovah's Witness now, so he's cleaned up his act, and doesn't perform more of his "salacious" material, but the concert was excellent all the same. He sang most of his old songs, many of them accapella, and his voice is beautiful. As a lifelong Prince fan, (why did MamaNaturale have the poster of him naked on a bearskin rug when I was a little one?) I was really pleased. I'd reccomend it to anyone.

Smile It was the bomb!

I must encourage any die hard Prince fans to GO TO THIS CONCERT!!!!!! It was unbelievable. I saw him this weekend and I still haven't come down off my high! If he comes to an area near you, GO!!!!!! He is such a genius, and this is characterized by the way he has evolved as an artist. He did some of his sexy stuff, but it was in such a mature way. My only complaint is that he didn't do my all time favorite song (by any artist), Adore. But if you ever just sit and REALLY listen to the lyrics of Adore, I can see why he didn't do it. Even without the one curse word in it, the lyrics are kind of questionable. Hmmmm..... Would any Prince fans like to debate on my last statement?
