Worst date ever

Lisa's dating thread made me think of the idea for us to each share our worst date ever. I will start!

Started talking to this man on the internet. He could spell, and used proper grammar (unusual when you meet someone online!) and we seemed to enjoy a lot of the same things. I was impressed that he had custody of his 15 year old son (not a dead beat dad). He didn't have a picture of himself though.

Fast forward after several weeks of talking online, (but no picture), he suggests that we meet for dinner. I would only meet someone in a public place under these circumstances and we hadn't talked on the phone or anything. He mentions in a chat that I'll know him because he always wears a denim cap. (First red flag.. a cap, indoors? denim?)

I arrive way too early at the restaurant and decide to drive around the area and see what else is around. As I pull back into the parking lot, I see another car pulling in and the driver is wearing a baseball hat. Hmm, could be him? There is someone in the passenger seat though! I didn't see them go into the restaurant since I was parking my car. Deep breath, go into the restaurant. There were only a few people there, and I look around and see this guy waving at me. He has a big grin on his face, and is missing a couple teeth in front. He is wearing his denim cap which is completely oil covered and an oil covered jacket. He has long, very greasy hair poking out from under the "cap". I think "What am I doing here?". But, I will be polite.

Then I realize, there is a teenage boy sitting across from him in the booth, mohawk, numerous piercings, and equally filthy. So, where am I going to sit? Next to toothless man or mohawk boy? I perch myself on the very edge of the seat of the booth, as far from toothless man as I can. I was a little concerned that something might crawl out from this guy's sleeve!

We have some small talk while waiting for food to arrive. At this point, I was house hunting and toothless man (referred to as TM from here on out) says "How is the house hunting going?". Mohawk Boy (MB) says "You know, you could just get a nice double wide in that trailer park down the road". I just smile politely and say I would prefer a house.

Conversation turns to the day that MB came home with the mohawk and how mad TM was. I mention that I used to work on an adolescent psych unit and that every child rebels in some way.. saying that a hair cut is the least damaging way that a child rebels.. something like "If that's the worst thing he's done, you're doing alright". I had stated the name of the hospital as well. TM says "You worked at ____?" I nod yes. "HE" (pointing at MB) was there, just in February!" (which was shortly before I left there). Now, I worked the outpatient unit most of the time but covered some groups on the inpatient unit as well and this young man was inpatient so I didn't know him well. Then MB speaks up "Yeah, me and ___, ___, and ___, started a riot. We were kicking the nurses and security guards". Now I DID know the other boys he mentioned and knew them to have incited the worst riot we ever had on that unit!

This was my first date after my divorce and my worst nightmare come true!

I got away from that restaurant as fast as I could and put Toothless Man on ignore from IMs forever.

And people wonder why I stay Invisible when I log onto Yahoo...
