"Pledge"
Have any of you read the book called "Pledge" by Alexandra Robbins? It's called "Pledged, The Secret Life of Sororities" and it gives sororities an AWFUL name. The inside flap says: "New York Times bestselling author Alexandra Robbins became curious about wether the stereotypes of sororities were actually true, so she spent a year undercover with a group of girls in a typical sororitiy. The sororities' sordid behavior exceeded her worst expectations-drugs, psychological abuse, extreme promiscuity, racism, violence and rampant eating disorders were just a few of the problems. But even more surprising was the fact that these abuses were inflicted and endured by intelligen, successful, and attractive young women." That's just the first paragraph. I don't know what sorority she was with (I am only on page 25) but that crap does not happen in the Alpha Xi Delta at YSU. Just in the last 25 pages I've read about "drug rooms" and "men rooms", and "field trips" to get the "unmentionables" pierced, and all this psychological crap these girls go through. There is even hazing that still goes on (I thought that was illegal everywhere??). Has anyone else read this book? Where is hazing STILL legal?! I bought this book out of interest. Someone needs to come out with a book that shows the good in sororities because this is ridiculous.
