Nelly's Tip Drill Video Sound Off

I woke up this morning and turned on the radio. To my surprise there was a debate about Nelly wanting to perform at an institution and the students boycotted or went against it because of the way that he depicts women in his latest Tip Drill video. I for one believe that even though I like the song, I do admit that the video is a bit degrading and should be sold in porn venues instead of played on cable television for all to view no matter what time it is. I know that I wouldn't want for my daughter to be seen in videos such as this. It is degrading to not only themselves but to families, friends, schools, etc. Sound off!

It's only degrading if the women didn't get paid.

This happened at Spelman College in Atlanta GA (my alma mater ) I've been meaning to post a link. Thanks for the reminder....

I don't think Nelly was actually supposed to perform. The purpose of his visit was to highlight his foundation and to host a bone marrow drive. Student were going to protest his presence, so they canceled the drive. There are talks about scheduling another drive with the Red Cross.

Not hating on Nelly or anything, but I'm glad the students at Spelman had the drive to stand and say "hey, we don't appreciate the way you exploited black women in your video!" I'm a man, AND I have a 3 year old son. Though I appreciate beautiful black women, I was even offended, and in no way would I want him to see something of that nature...not at least until the age of 16. Parents, we really have to monitor the tube to ensure that our kids don't fall down the wrong path. I just don't get it at times.

Not only do I not like the song nor the video, but I've stopped watching BET period. BET IS NOT MY VOICE. So many people think that this is the voice of young African Americans, but it's not. I do not like the way that the women are exploited and furthermore the way we as a people are exploited. They take certain aspects of our life and make it seem as though those are the only things we appreciate.

I aint gonna front...

Well, I like the video... but for all the wrong reasons. It IS quite degrading. Sad to see how much television has evolved since the 50's and 60's. Spelman had all right to protest to get their point across. Hopefully, Nelly will tone it down a bit on the next video.

One thing i wonder though... as much as many people think as such videos as degrading, why are there still women in these videos dancing? Is it the money?
