Quick question - slang

In the film Save the Last Dance, the Julia Stiles character says something is the 'bomb' and is quickly corrected to say no, it's slammin'. So quick question is, is slammin' dated now too?

Nobody I've ever known has used the word "slammin" so I couldn't really comment.

Maybe it depends on the situation? In October, 2003, the American Library Association used "Slammin' @ Your Library" as their theme for Teen Read Week, a play on words for poetry slams. So maybe it's still around somewhere, but I'm not cool enough to know where.

Slammin' sounds ridiculous outdated to mean something is good. But like Cedar said I've heard it used for poetry slams.

Smile

@ TheEpitome1920:
Ok I hear you. So what would be the equivalent contemporary word now?

Good question. I've heard "hot", "fire", "crazy", "sick".

I personally say groovy or snazzy.

I've never heard anyone say "slammin'" except on TV. That's kind of like saying "dope" or whatever...no one I know would use that.

A lot of people I know say "off the hook"...I hate that one.

A lot of people around here use 'slammin' to mean busy- "We went to XYZ and it was slammin'" or really hot, i.e. "Dude check out that girl, she's slammin'."

I have totally heard that before...strange.

If I think something is cool, I simply say...cool. Awesome is also a huge part of my vocabulary.

And if I heard anyone use the word slammin in reference to something cool I'd have to laugh, b/c really, who says that?!

I say "nifty" a lot!

Haven't heard anyone use "slammin'" though. I have heard a lot of people use "hot" and "sick." And of course people are still using "mad."

Ok so this is kind of off topic, but I just thought about it.

My ex and a bunch of his fraternity brothers use the word "retarded" as an adjective. They say it to stress how much something is. I remember the first time I heard one of them use it he was talking about how the heater in their house was "like retarded awesome" b/c it worked so well. And they said it all the time, it was so weird!!! Jules, have you ever encountered a Delt that did this?? Haha, maybe it was just me...

I think I may have used that term in the 6th grade.
