Dating Droughts

How long was the longest you've gone on without a "proper" date?

I haven't had a date in over 2 years ... maybe even more (I've lost count), unless you count the guy that I sometimes hang out with that I'm 90% sure is gay.

I'm not sure if this is the longest, but right now the last date I had was in November.

I didn't have any proper dates during the 7 years that I was married. That would definitely be the longest.

Oh!!! Don't say that!!! What do we "newlyweds" have to hope for???

Seriously, a proper date is what? Guy asks you out to the dinner and movie... Picks you up at a specific time and takes you home at a specific time and does not ask you to get down on it...

When I was dateless in SoCal, aside from the fact I was in grad school hayle, I found that sometimes, I had to "arrange" the date and make the fella thought it was all his idea...

So, if I have never met the guy, I'd meet him at a public location--like a restaurant with a happening bar. Then if I thought he was cool, I'd have dinner with him, maybe. Then I would call it the night.

As far as gettin' busy, those are not dates, those are physical activities that don't count as dates in my books...

Now being married, one has to make up a date time. No kids, no work, no worries. Just you and your loved one spending quality time together. And if gettin' your groove on is cool, then do it after the "date" if you aren't too tired from the "date". Otherwise, make the groove thang the date...

Longest was years. Before the one I has a couple weeks ago, it'd been...*thinking*...2 years since I've been on a "proper" date.

If it makes you feel any better, my parents never gave up their Friday night dates, and they celebrated their 30th back in May...at least now they don't have to get Grandma to babysit!

Hearing things like that just make life worth living! My parents were like that, too.

Well hey, there's a reason we're divorced! No, we never went on dates after we were married. We had a hard time finding babysitters and he didn't really want to pay someone to watch the kids while we went out. He also made the comment once "I had fun before we were married, but now I'm married and I don't need to have fun now". How screwed up is that??? I told him that I wished he'd told me before we got married that he never intended to have fun again! It was a train wreck, truly.

Married folks NEED to have dates and if they can't get out of the house, they need to at least schedule a home video night after the kids are in bed. A time when no housework is done, phone is not answered, etc. While we were in counseling, we scheduled a video date. He went out to get the video as soon as the kids were in bed. When he got home, the neighbor guys were drinking beers in the garage across the street. He didn't even come in the house, he just headed straight over there. He came in about an hour and a half later and I was fuming. I told him if he ever did that again, I was changing the locks on him. Yet, he begged me not to divorce him. Go figure.

I'm not sure it really counts once you're married... Not in the same way at least.

I kinda think that the purpose of a "date" in the grand scheme of things is to find someone special out there. Once you've already found that, I think the term "date" changes.

BTW- wow this thread has gone WAY off topic.

How about the SINGLE people who haven't been on a date in a long time? I think the last REAL date I had (By that I mean, "Hey, let me take you out to dinner and a movie on Friday night." Not, "Hey, it's 7pm on Friday night- want to 'hang out'?")

I'm pretty sure mine was about a year ago... last summer. Sigh, I could use one of those about now.

I was actually kind of being facetious when I said the 7 year thing!

My longest stretch has been the last two years. When I first got divorced, I dated a lot. I found out that most of the men out there at my age are single for a very good reason. I decided that it was too stressful to deal with all the psychos and that I'd rather just hang out with friends and neighbors and focus on raising my kids. If someone really amazing came along and asked me out, I'd probably go, but I think most of the amazing men are still married to their first wives...

I don't want to ask how old you are, but that idea doesn't sit well with someone like me who is out of college and trying to find someone special out in the real world.

I went to a singles party a couple Valentine's Days ago, and after about 10 minutes I turned to my friend and said, "I think there's a REASON why all these people are single!"

*Keeping fingers crossed that there is still that special guy out there for me*

Most of the time it turns out to be someone from your past.
