Personal Bios

I need to write a personal bio for our company's website so that when clients click on my name, they get a little info on me. Now I'm only the receptionist, and I'm a very recent graduate (spring '03) so I'm not entirely sure what to write. Obviously, I'll include my degree and alma mater, but should I include things like my panhellenic work, or offices in my sorority? What about being on the spirit squad? I'm thinking I should maybe include volunteer work as well, but I'm not sure. I just want to show that I've participated in tons of things, and that I'm a hard little worker!

It's for a Real Estate agency, but I don't have any real estate background. I did, however, work for a law firm throughout college before this job.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!!

Keep in mind the audience for which you're writing this bio... this isn't an application for Order of Omega or other university-based organizations. This is a professional bio and you want to project yourself as being a mature, hard working adult. Include current volunteer work that add value to your employer but I would limit collegiate activities to a single sentence. If you're in an area where GLO membership would help make connections then by all means mention that you served as a panhellenic and chapter officer while a member of XYZ at Big State U. (ok, I live in Texas and people actually DO wear their pins on badge day) but if you're in an area where GLOs are not as prevalent, you'd be bette off to downplay it. I know YOU are proud of everything you've done... it got you where you are but if you are not currently doing something it will look like you're living in the past and are not forward thinking.

My professional bio has blurbs about my education, my relevant experience and other clients, and also a *small* section talking about my affilitation with a charitable organization as well as my fraternity.

Depending on the client, the bio is changed to make it seem as if i really have more experience in their area than any other.

It doesn't matter if you didn't work in this area before...make it seem like you did. It's pretty much like trying to describe a color, feeling, or taste without examples.
