Alpha Epsilon Pi Sues U. of Delaware
According to news reports, Alpha Epsilon Pi is suing the U. of Delaware to try to get the U. to let AEPi apply to become recognized. Looks like an interesting attempt to fight the school's limit on the number of applications it will consider. Excerpt from an article:
A Jewish fraternity that the University of Delaware stopped recognizing five years ago has filed a lawsuit seeking to force the school to consider its application for a new chapter.
Alpha Epsilon Pi and its national secretary, Gary Anderson, allege that a limit on the number of applications for new fraternities is preventing the university from considering the group for official recognition until fall 2008.
They allege that the delay deprives students of the opportunity to join a fraternity that promotes Jewish culture and supports the state of Israel and other Jewish causes.
Such a deprivation violates the fraternity's rights to freedom of association, religion and assembly, they argue in the lawsuit filed in Delaware Chancery Court.
