A) Find alumnae backing worth at least $1 million.
B) Buy house.

Honestly, I'm not trying to be funny, but having a house is a HUGE expense. The insurance alone could kill a chapter that isn't flush.

i wouldn't even consider it hun... sac state ASI has been talking about "greek row" this and that for YEARS and no one has bothered to actually start building. it's too much of a liability. Fraternities used to have some houses downtown but they were in a high crime area and it was always a mess there. Basically I think sacramento is too broke.

here's what we do... we get 6-10 girls to all live together in a large apartment complex and party hop from one apartment to the next. Some girls have rented houses for themselves. But there is no official CHI DELTA house... complete with letters and everything.

Question

Is this a retread question via the same Peep!?

You have to pay for the damn thing! If you do not have a Large and established group, then do not worry about it, you cant afford it!

Not to be flipint, but just think! Where do the money come from? The Tooth Fairy!

For our house, we used what I would call the wire, spit, and tape method! The chapter women (under the guidance of their advisors) saved about $160,000 over a period of 7 years. We started out in 1995 with assets of $22,000 and increased our house fees to save for a house and the chapter contributed about $180,000 towards construction of the house.

We fundraised (and continue to do so), and borrowed from a bank and the Fraternity, and opened the Kappa Kappa Gamma house at USC in August 2003!

I saw another thread about houses and wanted to post a picture of our house but I can't seem to figure out how to do it! Can somebody tell me how? I'd love to share the picture.

The chapter women made a lot of sacrifices, but in the end it was worth it. I also busted my butt for the better part of 2002 and 2003 to make sure it happend so that my chapter would continue to exist on that campus.

What we, and a lot of other chapters here in chico, do is rent houses. I'm not quite sure how the relationship was established between our landlords and ourselves...but I'm sure it just began as a group of Alpha Phi's getting the house we now have and eventually gaining the landlords trust enough to start having 3 year leases and allowing letters to be placed on the front of the house. Also, the house we have is strongly affiliated with the history of chico state so the landlords probably cooperate with the school in allowing student groups to occupy certain houses.

I would love it if we owned this house but this works out really well. My rent is pretty cheap and Alpha Phi pays for gas, electric, water, and bottled water (like big alhambra bottles) so it works out great.

I'd figure you could just get a nice house thats rentable or like rent to own...In GA, there are plenty of mini mansion type homes but they're away from campus. If your sorority is small and you want a house, rent or rent to own. But if you all are big and you have good "backing" then go for it. I dont' know much about the whole thing but thats around what I'd do. Herre in Savannah Ga, a nice "house" would start some where around 300k and up or rent would be around 1500 per month...depends on where you live and what your budget is. Either way, it'll most likely be pricey...
I just did a little search and I saw that a lot of the nice homes are in the Millions...ouch! They're really beautiful though

Sounds more complex than it is!!

PKTKKG, do it thusly:

When you've clicked reply/new post, you'll see the smileys, buttons and whatnot. One of the items is the IMG button to post images. It places (IMG) ...(/IMG) either side of the text pointing to an image. What goes in between the tags, is a web address pointing to a graphic.

So, the graphic needs to be up on the web. Most free hosts like geocities won't let you link to pictures on there from external sites like GreekChat so you'd either have to point to a picture on a paid host (like a commercial/national site) OR if you just have some pics on your hard drive and no website then use a site which does let you upload pics and then link to them. www.photobucket.com is a decent one for you to try, pretty easy to use.

If you see a pic you like on a webpage out there (non-geocities etc sites) then right click on it and select properties. You'll see the web address of the actual pic, starting with http://. Highlight it with the mouse and copy it all (ctrl-c, or copy via menu). Then come to your post and that's the text you'll be putting inside the (IMG) tag.

Example: {IMG}http://www.website.com/rush/pic101.jpg{/IMG}. So then click submit reply after adding any caption or text and people will see the pic in all it's glory.

Summary: If pictures not already on a website then use something like photobucket.com. Then get the webpage address of the specific pic and then post a message on here with the entire webaddress (called a URL) in between those IMG tags. Oh and make sure it doesn't have {IMG}{URL} ...., i.e. both tags - you just need IMG tags either side.

Square brackets [] not 'curly' () ones are used when you press the IMG button in a real attempt of course.

edited to add: After posting I found this useful page which describes how to do it in quick simple terms. The above post contains some useful pointers on getting images so you can put the code in though, so I'll leave it up.

The way the Beta house was built at WVU was back in the early 20's our alum bought some undeveloped land very near to the University and downtown. It was about 15 lots or so. We held on to it for about ten years, then started selling it off lot by lot. We kept the best land for ourselves and basically had the house paid for buy the profit off the other lots we sold.
