Re: www.lightskinpeople.com
I've no idea. And I'm a "light" person myself. *SMH*

So, what's THEIR STATED aim of this site? I couldn't find it on there.
ETA: Ok, I found this on yahoo search "Lightskinpeople.com intends to build upon the competitive spirit of the community
by repersenting Lightskinpeople from Us , Cannada and Round The World."

Are you kidding me?
Surely you jest...
My mouth physically dropped when I saw this Web site. Just when you think progress has been made, someone comes along and sets everyone back about 400 years... I, too, am "light", but I fail to see the point in this self-segregation crap. Despite my racial background and my heterogenous family tree, I'm black... Period.

the amount of hate mail they get must be unbelievable... I actually browsed... and I am ashamed. lol
Noseyness got the best of me because this site is clearly not for me or "my kind." lol
This so sux.
what about light skinned people who are the product of two black parents? what about people who are dark with a light sibling? what about darker parents with lighter skinned children? a concept like this can only be meant to divide. How unfortunate... their is actually a name for this that social scientists have come up with. Colorism is it, I think.

I do agree with you. I am the lightest member of my household. People want to kick and scream about "They did this" and "They did that" but when we can not be united as a people then where the heck do we (some people) get off being mad at other people saying stuff about us. When from the looks of it (speaking of the website) we don't have our own ish together.

Can we get a witness from the congregation? It's past time to clean up our own house. I'm not a person who thinks we have to be unified on everything, because there are class schisms within the black community, but colorism is just beyond ridiculous, IMO.

PREACH, GIRL! PREACH!
lol
When we were younger, my brother was considerably lighter than me, and something like this would have hurt my feelings, I am sure of it. I always wondered if my mom liked him better because he was light skinned (after I had my son, I realized it was because he was her son, and he could have been black as soot with one arm, a limp, and one big eye on his chin, and he'd still be special to her as his mommy). If someone had come up with something real... something commercial... something organized... to highlight that difference, I think it would have been detrimental. It would have made be believe that it wasn't just in my head, and since someone made an effort to organize something special for it, it must be true.
Imagine something that could put a difference between two people with the same blood. Anyway, I think the idea is just awful.

The e-mail I sent them!
I do not know how informative your site may be or if it is any good, but the name of it is beyond me. Do you only provide news of people of fair skin, I am just wondering because on the front I see mentioned Mya, Colin Powell, and Will Smith? So would influential blacks not be mentioned on your site if they are darker they your standards? There are many other politicians you could mentioned, but maybe they are too dark for your liking? I just bet our historical figures and Civil rights leaders would just love your website (SARCASM!), wouldn't they just be delighted that they're blood, sweat, and tears are not being taken in vain! Don't think that I am somebody who is of a darker complexion an is just angry. No, I am of light skin too. We as a people bitch and moan when "other people" say how divided we are. They (the other people) don't have to bring us down or separate us, as a people we are self-destructing ourselves with bullshit like your website. I am not sorry for being so blunt, but people have been sugar coating things for too long. Let the damn nonsense STOP!!!
We as African Americans and or Black people need to get our houses in order before we can judge anyone else.

Ridiculous
Just to illustrate how backwards they are:
It should be "light skinned people" not "light skin people".... While they're so busy worrying about complexion, they should at least make sure they're grammatically correct!

Wow! What uplifting purpose does this website serve? None. As a people, it seems like for every one step forward, we take three giant steps back. What will it take for the misguided to wake up? *sigh*

Re: Ridiculous
OKay... can we get an amen to that!! I had noticed that too, but thought I was in the wrong. Glad our educators are always on the case.
Again, foolishness such as this should be ignored. If simple folks wanna go off and congregate in that manner, so be it. Keeps them out of my hair and out of my life.

Amen. Enough said. We really must focus on moving ourselves along. What "others" think of us will persist but we must focus on bringing our own mentality along. That is a job w/in itself.
Interestingly enough, growing up as a child in a mixed community, the flack that I got for my hue was not from white children; it was from black children. Our children are learning this self-hate somewhere and we must PROACTIVELY take steps to end it, IMO.
