Tonight i am going to a party for one of my soror's bc she will be doing an intern at Disney World. SO I was getting ready and put on jeans I haven't wore in a few months- I had to jump up and down to get into them. My mom has been telling me I've been getting fat and I this just confirms it. I feel gross and am so mad bc Iwill be going back to school in a wk and i wanted to look good in case my ex saw me so he could see what he is missing!!! Well He is missing a fat chick. anyway I needed to vent my frustration!

Lana! Don't worry about it! I always used to put on a couple of pounds when I was home for the summer. Afterall, there isn't much to do at home except for eat and watch soaps (at least for me!). Once you get back to school and get into your routine again the weight you put on will melt off and you'll be back to your old self in no time!

Really Tracy? Here it's usually the opposite. Gain weight during the year and lose it over the summer.
Just recently there was an in-depth survey about obesity in Canada done by the Globe and Mail in conjuction with CTV . The news...not very good. 48% of the country is considered overweight, damn that's awful. The worst City: St.Catharines at a staggering 67%. The average weight of males has rised by 9 pounds in the last ten years, etc., etc. I was gonna start a thread about this but I didn't want to offend anybody.

Lana, don't worry about it like killarneyrose said. During school you, just like everyone else, is so busy with classes, greek life, etc that you will shed some weight without thinking about it too much.

THAE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!!!
Except it happened at school, not this summer. I was going cheerily along, thinking I had successfully dodged the infamous Freshman 15, when all of a sudden, I could not squeeze my new large self into my old small clothes (okay they weren't tiny to begin with, but they were a nice average cute size). I was of course majorly annoyed (Especially with everyone around me for not dropping any hints that I was "expanding" and letting me go on believing everything was fine) But then I got really, really sick and couldn't eat and was throwing up for days, and I miraculously went back to my old size. Definitely not the best way to lose weight, but I was able to keep it off since I am now more aware that the Freshman 15 is NOT a myth.
But don't worry, I'm sure you'll have no problem getting svelte again, especially since you're starting a new exercise routine. Good Luck!

Lana, don't worry about it, girl Once you start exercising, especially if its not something you usually do, the weight will just melt right off.
Anyway, I know a while back you posted your weight before, and its less than me, so you can feel better about that
Good Luck!

Nope, not me! Maybe it had to do with the fact that I was always so damn broke in college that I couldn't AFFORD to pig out at school! Besides, I always had people forcing me to jog with them or play soccer or whatever.

killarneyrose, how about basketball? I know what you mean though, there are always people bugging me to go over to the fieldhouse. My least favorite game is racquetball.

Oh boy, have I been there, Lana!
My take is a little different. I say, go buy one or two new outfits that make you feel and look great. Get your hair and nails done. Doesn't have to be anything dramatic, just pamper yourself. Step on to campus looking and feeling good about yourself. The extra pounds will come off soon enough, but until then, don't stress yourself out about it and be depressed. Stress causes wrinkles.

The at home weight gain is so true for me as well. At school I get to pretty much pick what I eat and usualy eat really healthy. I also have a free gym to use and get lots of walking in also. Similar to some of ya'll now that I'm home I just sit around and do nothing! Last summer my mom and I went low-carb but not this summer. I can't wait to get back to school and put some miles on the treadmill!
One peice of advice: don't go clothes shopping right now. Not bc you may be in a different size but bc it's back to school time. I was in JCPenny's and almost told off the girl who was compaling that the size 3 Mudd jeans didn't fit her...meanwhile I'm trying to get in a size 7...

This message is a little bit different . . . but if you want to look farly different in about a week you can . . .
This is what you do . . . East meat, cheese, mayonaise as much as you want. . . eat fat and protein no carbs . . . Carbs are:
Pasta potato rice bread etc . . .
Drink alcohol only one night . . . and make sure its only hard alchol, preferably vodka or whiskey. They have the least amount of calories.
First thing in the morning on an empty stomach . . . go walk up and down steps for 20 minutes (or as close as you can come to that). Could be a single flight of steps.
You brun off 300 percent more fat on an empty stomach first thing in the morning.
At night go for an hour walk listening to your favorite tunes.
Drink 120 ounces of water a day.
Take Xenadrine before workout in the morning and 2 hours before night walk . . .
You should drop about 5-10 pounds . . . shrug.
When you come off the diet . . gradually introduce more carbs!
Good luck

This message might be a bit different too but you can eat nothing but grapefruit for a week Seriously these are short term but never help out long term.

Well actually a lot of low carb diet variations are excellent for permanent fat loss over time. I just put one down for a quick result.

I highly recommend a low carb diet... I've lost a lot of weight on the Atkins diet myself. Similar to what James is recommending.
- Lots of meat, fish, eggs, etc
- Salad veggies (lettuce, cucumber, etc)
- Other low carb veggies - broccoli, cauliflower, etc - all those things you loved to hate when you were little
- Cheese, cream
- Lots of water - 8 x 8 oz glasses per day
- Be wary of alcohol, because your body metabolizes it first, before carbs or fat. Ditto with caffeine.
I can point you to a few good sources of info - just drop me a line. If nothing else, get Dr. A.'s book and read it. Even if you don't subscribe to the low carb diet, read Dr. Atkins' book. Give it a chance ~ because I know a lot of people (myself and my husband included) for whom it's worked!

Maybe this is just because I'm a carb-addict, but I don't believe that those diets work long term.
I've found the best thing overall is eating most foods in moderation. If you want cake, eat half of what you normally would. Don't go whole hog, but don't make yourself feel badly about not being able to have any. I also find its helpful to drink water. If you can get off soft drinks, try to do so. They just make you bloated and puffy. That combined with 30 min on the treadmill every day helped me lose my freshman 15
