Chitterlings
I know this is an unusual topic butttt...
Does anyone have recipe or even know how to cook chitterlings aka chitlins. I have no idea and I want to make all the foods my family likes for this big dinner on sunday. any suggestions or ideas, please post or email. I check both regularly.
Feel free to laugh at me for posting this

Damn Damn Damn - LOL
I don't know how to cook them but I sure would not want to serve them to several people if I had not cooked them previously. It might be messy - ha ha ha

First of all do you consider your self to be a good cook? If you cook them...please don't tell your family ir's your first time b/c no one will eat them. They will start saying stuff like did you clean them well and makin up stuff about them. I love chitterlings and will ask my grandmother. I know the basic most important step is to make sure you clean, scrub, clean, scrub those things before you even let them look at the stove. It could be a disaster. What else are you cooking? Just in case that doesn't work.

ooooo....
The smell of chitterlings raw, cooking, whatever...
But to add my 1/2 cent to the issue:
YESSSS!!! For the sake of your guests Make sure they are clean. You may wanna have a test drive day where you try a batch on your closest friend/family member...
As a child I was witness to a VERY smelly mess one Friday night before the family reunion... ewwwww
An older cousin had her way in the kitchen with some chit'lins and, well, *ahem* they could have been A LOT cleaner.
Ewwww....Needless to say dinner, didn't go over too well. And here and now, about 12 years later, it's STILL a family joke.
What a stanky mess...

Ooohhh chile!!! Youz a fust tam chitlin cooka huh? Well this whatchu do baby, fust you cleenz'm, and den ya rinchem and make show you rinchem gude. Sounding like my ole Granny(RIP). Seriously, I know there is a lot of fat that you have to make sure you get rid of that and there is a LOT of washing, I think it takes longer to clean them because you want to make sure that there is NO pig crap if you know what I mean. Basically, you can use salt, pepper, some vinegar(to taste) and cut some onion up in them when they are closed to being done. You just have to keep watching them to make sure the water does not boil off of them, because there is nothing worse than burnt chitlins. I would guestimate the cooking time of about 3-4 hours depending, because you want to make sure that they are nice and done. If all else fails and you don't feel all that comfy with cooking them, you can always cheat a little and get the ones that are already cooked and just follow the same thing I told you about adding the seasonings in them. With those you just heat and eat. You can find them in any frozen food section of your supermarket by the turkeys and hams. BTW, I love me a good clean chitlin.......

It may be my first time cookin them but I have been held hostage many a day as my mom forced me to clean them. So my chitlin cleaning skills should be fine. If not, I'll just give them to her. You guys have me cryin laughing. I'm going to fall out of my chair. I will do my very best to clean em and cook em. I'll be sure to let you all know how my dinner works out. Even if they don't, I'm serving up stuff I really know how to cook i.e. baked chicken, stuffing, collards, mac n cheese etc.

How did dinner go, Kitten03? I need to get out of this post because the rest of your menu is making me hungry.

You guys & gals got me thinkin i'm special
Dinner was perfect without the chitlins. We had a ton of food and a great time. Chicken, ham, greens, mac n cheese, salad, dressing. So thanks for all the advice. I'll keep it in mind the next time I need cookin tips.

I KNOW IT'S KINDA AFTER THE FACT, BUT FOR THE NEXT TIME, LOOK FOR CHITLIN'S THAT ARE ALREADY HAND CLEANED. THEY COST A LITTLE MORE, BUT THEY ARE WORTH IT. YOU WILL STILL HAVE TO INSPECT/RINSE THEM, BUT THIS IS THE EASIEST WAY BY FAR.
